Agree. We always have to get extra noodles for $2 extraOriginally posted by dennisaur
i agree that this place is good but we found the portions to be a bit small. even the girls were still hungry after eating there and they don't even eat much.

Hibiki is awesome!
I've been staying away from Shikiji because of the price hikes but after seeing all the Japanese in restaurants start creeping up in price, it didn't seem as bad. I was going to go back and try it out but after reading your post, I don't think I will.Originally posted by GQBalla
of course cause they kill the moldy chicken with sake and salt.
and than load up the teriyaki sauce.
They have Ramen at Wa's too and it's more reasonably priced, but the meat there is questionable as well. You can tell by the taste that it's a few weeks old. Seems like Japanese restaurants really like to cut corners on the meat - I guess it's probably where they can cut the most cost.
Just curious then... Is this actually your friend that works there, or did your friend hear it from their friend, who heard it from his girlfriend's uncle's cousin's third removed son's father's niece's dog's sibling owner's alien abductor's grand universe ruler?Originally posted by GQBalla
i will never go back to shikiji ever again after what my friend has told me about their kitchen....
lets just say he learned how to make rotten chicken turn into something edible....why do you think they dump teriyaki sauce all over it?
and their soup has whatever they want in it....
like literally
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!
I eat at Wa's every weekend and the meat has always taste fine to me?

That used to be my fav place, there was only one cook there, and it was the owner. It was sooo good and, it taste just like eating at a noodle cart in downtown Shinjuku! It's sad that it's now replaced by some random Jpns restaurant, man I miss Cafe Tokyo...Originally posted by frozenrice
wat?
There used to be Cafe Tokyo (?) just off of Edmonton Trail. I'm not sure how authentic/good it was in comparison to other places, but it seemed pretty good.
Wa's is very good, and cleanOriginally posted by max_boost

Machining, Fabricating, Welding etc.
The last couple times I went, the meat had a stale sour taste. I just eat around it, and it's fine.Originally posted by max_boost

The best thing about Muku's ramen is actually the meat.
All the other place i've been to, shikiji, hibuki, misai, that place in Banff...have very thinly sliced meat, but Muku's is thick and juicy.
Another good place is right beside bubblemania where ice bar used to be. Their spicy ramen is also very good.
Are you talking about Robson Sushi?Originally posted by TYMSMNY
Yea, +1 for Muku. Another place that is OK is Shijiki on centre st/16th ave.
Best place... Vancouver at the end of Robson St.

I'm willing to bet he's talking about Kintaro. That is the ultimate ramen place in Canada, period. I will never visit Van without stopping by.Originally posted by JordanEG6

Just had the Miso Ramen at Shijiki. Pretty good portion but not strong enough flavour. One of the better ones in Calgary though.
Yup, that full rich soup is not for the faint of heart boys. Those sparkling white "snowflakes" happening in the bowl is sheer death in disguise... LOLOriginally posted by TYMSMNY

I think we need a Beyond Ramen Meet... in Vancouver.
Is that next to the Keg and across the street from Earls? I've been to this one place off of Robson that serves nothing but Asian type of noodles (udon, ramen, vietmanese vermacelli, Korean jajamen, thai noodles, wonton noodles).Originally posted by cdnsir

Calgary is so much like an iphone: iCalgary - There's a bylaw for that.
^^
Not quite. You gotta keep heading west from the place you've mentioned. Till when you're about a few blocks from the waters where all the buildings are a lot lower.
Actually what I had posted above is the actually address, so it should be searchable in any GPS. Well it least in mine, it bookmarked fine. Give it a try, you won't regret it.
