Maybe this is what I need too...Originally posted by Sugarphreak
It is good that I finally got laid off, I really needed that to push me into this.
I got laid off early Oct and started a new job downtown with a small EPCM early Nov.
Our department and company is small and our department still has existing work that will last maybe another month or two.
The other department layoffs will be a gauge for my future but If I make it 2 more months I will be shocked.
I fully expect to be laid off very soon.
All new bids were cancelled and nothing coming down the pipe.
I already had my panic layoff wake up call in Oct so I'm warmed up for what's ahead.
Sucks because I love this company and the people are amazing, management is amazing, downtown is amazing. I would work here for the next 10 years if it were possible.
This is a sad thread, I don't wanna go back to signs/wide format printing/adobe illustrator graphic design full time...

Commercial architecture is still in full swing with these low oil prices. Some of our projects are paying extra to be finished early so the can schedule for building when the market gets to its lowest point so they can save money. I am really surprised that we keep hiring drafters and designers.

I would be happy making 1/2 what I do and just have job security until I retire.

Yup....Imperial is pushing the schedule up for Quarry Park. Just got the revised schedule last week.

Any structural drafters here? As I am relatively new to the field (2 years and a bit) I'm just wondering how you like the work? Working for an architecture firm is fun but I'm not sure it's where I want to stay.
Is your firm revit, cad or transitioning?
I'm a technologist not an engineer.
Thanks
