Trail Bottle is shit. A few years back we used them for a hockey bottle drive and they burned us pretty hard. Never been back.

The only place I consistently use is Calgary Bottle Exchange down the road on Horton.

The bottle depot in Bowness is sketchy. Stay far far away.

No more Stampede Lexus/Toyota... just Toyota now.

I use to always use the one by Heritage Drive, the first one Tom reviewed. Great place and you don't have to sort it yourself!

Seems like all the bottle depots in the richer upscale communitys are so nice and fancy and clean compared to dirty souths ones.....

Which is freakin' awesome because it's just pure counting instead of losing count while un-screwing caps, and consumers don't have to look like dinks standing around not helping... I'm one of those guys that pretends to help a bit, only grabbing the super clean ones, unscrew 1 to their 20 while pretending I got a cell call.
It is still required to take the caps off. But the plant is not as strict about them as they useto be. When bottle depots are busy they ussally dont get the customers to sit there taking off caps they just do it in the back if they have time otherwise away they go with the caps on. The reason the caps have to come off is because its a saftey issue. There have been a few cases where when the bottles were being crushed at the plant the caps under pressure have come flying offf and nailing workers in the head an so on lol.

Fish Creek has ripped me off before, though I don't think it was intentional. It's pretty easy to get it right when it's only $5 worth of stuff. I had just over $80 worth so we expected some variance :P

Wouldn't it be easier to require full face shield at the processing plants then? (not the local depots)

In the past, all depots take their marry sweet time unscrewing the caps. Sucks when it's on a sunny weekend.

Tom, I think you need to do it with a bigger batch next time.
It's probably easier to "accidently miscount" the bigger batches...
    I think I finally found a ride I like

The OPs experiment was good though I agree that doing it with a larger volume of bottles and cans would be more telling.

I go to the bottle depot in frequently so when I do go I have hundreds of each type of container. Unless I count it all myself before hand, its hard to say if Im getting screwed or not.

How does the bottle depot supervise their employees?
It would seem it would be easy for an employee to over count and over pay a customer if they wanted to. The bottles and cans just go into large containers so it seems it would be hard to track.

This is review for: Deerfoot Bottle Depot located: 11440-29th Street SE (Douglas Dale)

So same thing, counted my inventory, and bagged them.

    My counts are as follows:
    - 4 of 3.78L jugs (or 4L)
    - 3 of Tropicana 2.63L
    - 6 of 1.75L
    - 1 of 1.9L
    - 2 of 1.5L
    - 7 of 2L milk containers
    - 4 of 1L milk containers
    - 26 of water bottle type (500ml type)
    - 15 of juice boxes
    - 7 starbucks bottles
    - 14 Gatorade/Ice tea/Minute maid type
    - 7 of over size water bottle/can

But in layman's terms, I think they only classified deposits as 1 litre OVER, and 1 litre UNDER

    For 1 L over, it should be $0.25 and 1 L under, $0.10

    So my inventory translated to:
    - 23 of 1L over @ $0.25 = $5.75
    - 73 of 1L under @ $0.10 = $7.30
    Total SHOULD BE: = $13.05

This place has a pretty nice appearance building, pretty good residental/industrial mixed location (dealerships, shopping strip mall, future LRT so bum recycler friendly)... There's even a car wash right beside this place, and with a huge sign on the building "bottle and car wash", the owner probably owns both.

However, I could see parking being an issue during even medium busy times. I went during weekday, 11am, so there wasn't any wait time whatsoever.

This place is high tech with LCD updates of what's being counted, even has a computerized print-out of your count.

Anyways, it's all about the money right?

    And here's the vertict, I predicted $13.05

And here's what they gave me.

Nicely done. This place is also down the street from Deerfoot Inn Casino, so you can put everything on black after.

The only reason I asked was I was in one afternoon and I think a school unloaded all their cans and bottles and gave the guy a 300 dollar tip or something nuts like that. I usually get 15 dollars back or so lol.
