Hawaiian Chevy Dealer Attempts To Crush Honda With Suburban, Fails
By Matt Hardigree, 12:00 PM on Mon Dec 22 2008, 18,073 views

A Hawaiian Chevrolet dealership setup a jacked-up Suburban to crush a vintage Honda Accord to send a message to anyone buying Japanese. The message became somewhat cluttered when the tiny Honda broke the SUV.

James Severtson, the general sales manager of Island Chevrolet in Hilo, Hawaii, hired a Chevrolet Suburban monster truck to drive over a used Honda Accord before a large crowd in order to highlight the importance and strength of American automakers. Instead, Severtson highlighted domestic quality issues when the truck blew a hydraulic hose and started leaking fluid after its first pass over the Accord. A few hours later the truck was repaired and the Accord, which proved to be too tough a competitor, was replaced with a Hyundai Excel.

This time it went off without a hitch. Let that be a lesson to you. If at first you don't succeed go to the White House for help try, try again.

Domestic has been sucking for years, lets face the facts, thats why the japanese are in the position they are in, and the us automakers are in the position they are in. They are crying for money, while japanese automakers, yes they are seeing a big hit, still are not going bankrupt.

Im not saying all domestic SUCKS, but really....there's a reason japanese cars are known for reliability. Dont flame me domestic lovers, its just an opinion, in a sea of many opinions, take it for what it is.

I had no idea that they hated Japanese auto makers so much.

Couple years ago, they started a fire at a Toyota Dealership in Texas.

That's a pretty heavily modded truck. It's hardly a poster child for reliability.

That being said. I love it when stunts like this backfire. Serves them right for acting cocky.

Word, everything drivetrain related on that truck was aftermarket, so a hydrallic hose breaks and the truck is automatically garbage?
    Nice. I enjoy that logic.

Stupid message though, sure crush an old worn out accord, in a pathetic attempt to thwart people from buying Japanese. Its a failure proof trick for sure!

I like how they are doing it in Hawaii, where 40% of the population is asian, and almost half of the asian population is Japanese. Now I'm not saying all asians buy japanese cars, but generally I'm sure we can come to a consensus that most of them do.

The hose that blew up was likely made in china anyway.Good story though.

It looks like they didn't replace the Accord with the Hyundai, they just added the Hyundai and he drove over both.

The people that are fooled by stunts like these already think this way, I can't imagine this changing anyones opinion. My Mexican built Chevy can drive over your US built Accord, haha.

This reminds me of the monster truck gaff in the movie Cannonball Run II.
Big Foot runs over a Porsche 928, crushing it. Or so it seems in the finished movie. In reality, they ran over the 928 3 times before getting a bull dozer to run over it. Then spiced the first run, with a final run after the dozer did its job.
