Default Jackie Chan lining up for 'Karate Kid' remake

I'm speechless. Hollywood: come up with some original ideas!!

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/09011...lm_people_chan

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Kung Fu movie legend Jackie Chan is being lined up for a role in a remake of the hit 1984 film "The Karate Kid," entertainment industry press reported Wednesday.

Daily Variety reported that Hong Kong star Chan, 54, was in final negotiations for the part of the elderly guru who teaches karate to a young boy, played by Jaden Smith, the son of Hollywood icon Will Smith.

The original "Karate Kid" starred Ralph Macchio as a youngster who learns to defend himself from bullies by learning martial arts from an eccentric mentor, played by the late American-Japanese actor Pat Morita.

Morita, who earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for his performance Mr Miyagi, died in 2005 aged 73.

The film spawned two sequels starring Macchio and Morita, as well as a fourth instalment in 1994 "The Next Karate Kid," starring future best actress Oscar-winner Hilary Swank.

Isn't getting a Kung Fu master to player a Karate master sacrilege?

What does Jackie Chan know about Wax on Wax off? Isn't he more into Tiger techniques and Drunken Kung Fu?

I'm more pissed about Jaden Smith playing the kid. He's fucking 10 while the kid in the original was supposed to be a teen in high school.

This is stupid too, Jackie or Jet Lee is Hollywood's only go to guy for Asian dude. Sad but who else is there? Maybe Ken Wantabi from Batman Begins but that's it. Maybe the Ong Bak guy but he's too young to be a teacher.

it's gonna be like that TV show sidekicks where the 10 year old kid takes on the mafia lol.

Remakes are soooooooooooo lame. Put the original Karate Kid in theaters now and it would be a better movie than this would ever hope to be.

The one thing i'm sure they'll fuck up is how the Karate Kid is a coming of age movie that's basically a drama. This will be some action packed crap nobody cares about.

They should be remaking something that would be worth remaking.

Like Clash of the Titans, if they remade that movie with a "300"esque feel and with some graphics, I'm sure that movie would be badass!

I keep asking my self how much gravitational pull that crane kick creates. It litterally sucks the guys face right into his foot.

, I was gonna say... Karate Kid is a CLASSIC.

Leave it alone and be original... I was going to say creative but that's probably asking for too much these days.

Next up for Jacko Chan, The Ten Commandments remake.

Karate kid is a wicked movie.

Why the fcuk woudl they remake it?!

Even if they do, I think they should continue with Ralph Machhio. I dunno..kinda like a continuation maybe?

But Mr. Miyagi was the best. Too bad he died.

    oh well.

hollywood running out of original ideas so just remaking classics. And the remakes are shit.
