Government sold list to anyone and list got into hands of scammers outside of Canadian jurisdiction. Now scammers have a precise list with higher hit rate.
That's why I never bothered.

"We've all heard these stories where someone gets taken advantage of," said Mr. Thibault. "And if this does happen because we've forgotten to cross an 'i' or dot a 't,' then, shame on us. We're putting this in place to help, not to make it worse."
Really? Telemarketers are aware of currency transactions too? We never thought of that........morons.Originally posted in that article
Mr. Cran said his organization has opposed the registry from the outset. But even the CAC did not contemplate the possibility that telemarketing hucksters would buy and use registry data.
How did they ever think this would work?

Yeah I've got a couple on my cell this last month or 2, I'm not on that list though.
These are the first ones I've had on this cell number, having had it a few yrs now.

I have 3 phones forwarded to my cell. I used to get 6 telemarketing calls a day, now I only get the odd one a week from the USA (the you've won a trip one).
The DNCL has worked wonders for me.
I'm glad I procrastinated when it came to putting my info on the list.

De-register My Number
To remove a residential, wireless, fax, or VoIP telephone number from the National Do Not Call List (DNCL), you must call the National DNCL Service Line at 1-866-580-DNCL (1-866-580-3625) or by a TTY 1-888-DNCL-TTY (1-888-362-5889) from the number you wish to remove.

Except that your number has already been sold to, I assume, the majority of people who want to use it. Removing your name will just allow the legitimate telemarketers (I know...) to phone you as well.
