Default Car lift/jacking ideas for home garage?

I need to get my car off the ground, and was wondering what the best method is? I want to be able to safely weld some spots underneath the car, but have to lift the car by the frame. Is there any sort of jack that is used specificly for bringing the entire car off the ground (that is available for home use, of course) or am I going to have to go to crappy tire and get three more car jacks?

Use one jack, and jack stands. Don't put yourself underneath anything that is supported by jacks only.

Considering one of those lifts will likely cost 2-3 times the price of the car you just bought, I doubt it would be worth it.

... something along that idea. it was an example. but i guess it's more productive to make negative remarks?

I'm simply looking for the SAFEST and BEST way to lift my car in my garage, so I can remove the rear end and get some welding done.

Some of those home-garage hoists are only a couple of thousand dollars, which seems like good value if you:

    1. work on your own car lots
    2. need extra car storage
    3. have adequate height in your garage.

The problem is my garage is only 8 feet high until you hit the framing... that's why i'm looking for a garage hoist that is only designed for working on the car, not parking another underneath.

Just go to U-Wrench, you can rent one of their hoists for $20/hr.

You can get old screw driven hoists... they are slow, but do the job in small garages.

I'm in the same boat. In my next house, a full height garage is a deal-breaker for me.

I would pay half the price for one of those... but it looks like it blocks access to removing a diff/subframe... better for changing wheels and such.
