Tranny Drain plug

I'm slowly learning how to do things on my own. I'll be changing the tranny fluid soon and I looked up the procedure on changing tranny fluid from Haynes Auto manual. From the diagram, I can't decipher which bolt to loosen.

Also, does a filter need to be replaced as well? Location?

The second picture is the drain bolt, the first picture is the fill bolt. Here are the steps to replacing the tranny fluid, which should be completed while keeping the car level:

1. Remove the filler bolt (the top one half way up the front of the tranny)

2. Place a drain pan under the bottom drain bolt

3. Remove drain bolt and drain the fluid

4. Once drained, put the drain bolt back in and tighten.

5. Run a hose down and into the filler hole, and connect a funnel to the hose.

6. Begin filling the tranny until fluid begins to come out of the filler hole

7. Put in the filler bolt and tighten.

Also there is no filter in the tranny

And I filled it with 3 litres of fluid. Could this become a problem?

I can't remember the quantity for a FWD tranny, but for an AWD tranny it was under 3 litres.

Like 4G63Power Said always open the filler bolt before drain bolt, because if you drain the fluid but the filler bolt is siezed u'll be fucked Royally.

that's a lot of oil you got on your bell housing...since your talon is pretty close to a neon i'd say the quantity of fluid is 2.3L like for me. Anyways when you get your tranny fluid FROM THE DEALERSHIP ask them and they can tell you exactly how much, though it's probably in your owner's manual. I've never heard of a filter for the tranny though. Maybe the neon is to welfare to have one. ANyways i would have guessed that it's the bolt in the first picture that is the drain plug...the second looks like a mounting bolt to me

Yes because everybody knows that if you punch a hole half way up the side of a jug of milk... the whole container will magically empty

I finally got the bolt off from the first pic and drained the excess fluid I put in yesterday and tomorrow I'll be completely changing the fluid to GM syncromesh.

BTW, does GM syncromesh have different viscosities? Or is it just the ONE type?

there are two different syncromesh

regular part# 12345349 ac delco #10-4006

friction mod part# 12377916 ac delco # 10-4014

i believe friction mod is best for lsd

oh sorry. limited slip differential.... is your car awd or fwd?? i'm not sure about mitsu's but the hondas that we get here don't come with lsd except for the type r. my car has an open differential aka garbage

I heard that gear with HYPOID eats syncros. Anytruth in that opinion?

why are you using GM stuff? aren't you supposed to use mopar stuff? i know on my neon the only stuff i can use is the mopar, as everything else is junk

you are a really close minded person, No, you do not need to ONLY use mopar stuff in your car.. you should only be using NuGold...
