BREAKING NEWS: City announces layoffs

Up to 200 City workers will be laid off.

The decision was just made at a City Council meeting.

The Planning Department is at the top of the list due to fewer developments and fewer permits.

Other departments are taking hits as well.

Specific layoffs will be announced this week.

CTV News Reporter, Kevin Rich, is at City Hall gathering information.

Yeah, I thought the City was a relative safe haven as well. Will be interesting to see what departments are getting hit the hardest.

So, in the slow time, where they could actually do some "planning" instead of "reacting" they are going to lay off the planning department?

U of C layoffs

CTV News has learned 200 University of Calgary employees will be losing their jobs.

U of C President, Harvey Weingarten, issued an internal memo Tuesday citing budget constraints as the reason for the layoffs.
