Montreal Sept Long Weekend

I ll be in Montreal during the long weekend and was wondering how the traffic is in Montreal, downtown and stuff. Should i rent a car or would i be ok with a Taxi. I plan to stay from Friday - Monday and was wondering if i go and see tourist attractions which way would be cheaper?

I dont exactly know which tourist attractions i m going to see but I will see the mains ones like the Japanese Garden and stuff like that. My hotel is downtown.

The metro downtown is fantastic, no real reason to rent a car unless you want to leave the core. Lots of great food, the modern art museum, science center, La Ronde amusement park. If you like to shop I highly recommend Simons for both yourself and your lady friend.
