Default Nenshi To Run For 3rd Term

I think this race, regardless of who else throws their hat in the ring, will come down to a vote for or against Nenshi so that's the question.

I personally don't like seeing any politician in a 3rd term. I'm no fan of Nenshi either, however after what happened Provincially I'm nervous of a "anybody but Nenshi" protest vote.

It's the shity council persons we need to get rid of. The mayor is less of a problem.

I'd run, but I would be 100x easier to pick on than Trump. I'd have to delete all of beyond and DDOS google cache and archive.org for the duration of the campaign. Hell, I already have my stepson's dad nit picking all of my beyond posts over the years, stripping it all down of any context, humor or sarcasm.

^ On that note, with how integrated the internet is in peoples lives, I wonder what percentage of the population is straight up sanitized from running for office in the future?

You basically have to decide to be a politician and keep that shit locked down from the age 12 onward

I have a good friend who is like that, wants to run for office one day. He has the settings on to approve anything posted to his FB or be tagged in etc. And even if the tags don't go through he asks to have TONS of stuff taken down if you include him in pictures etc.

Don't worry though, his locker room talk is just as dank as Trump's

Its not even just politicians though, it can put a big glass ceiling on you to work as a named executive at any kind of organization in the public spectacle.

For example imagine if the CEO's of Enbridge or Transcanada had facebook when they were teenagers?

That's the problem with politicians. they are groomed to be dishonest and secretive for decades before they are elected anywhere.

I think you guys are thinking too hard about this.

The USA loves electing criminals and drug addicts to office (especially mayors on the east coast).

Look how long it took Weiner to go down.

Clinton (Hillary) did something that LITERALLY, WITH NO QUESTION WHATSOEVER, WOULD HAVE OTHER PEOPLE IN JAIL FOR YEARS.

    So I dunno.

Like being a never caught criminal is a bad character trait when running as a politician.

Again, it may be a quality that people look for Criminally violent minds definitely do make their way to being top politicians around the world. Mugabe, Khadafi, Assad, Mubarak and Morsi, Kim Jong.

I'd say its about 50/50 whether or not a criminal is running the country or your local area. Its the only way to explain people like Rob Anders (bye bye Rob)

I think this is relevant to Neshi. I remember when he was elected into office.

Yes, really. I have wondered ever increasingly, who the heck would want to put themselves (and their families) through the wringer/invasiveness of running for political office.

There is no one without sin.

It appears to me that what we have encouraged by this atmosphere is lying. People running for office have to hide the skeletons in the closet very effectively and live in fear of being found out and, hence, having to resign.

Otherwise, you have to behave like Trump (and others like him) and parade it around? Maybe that is an effective tactic? hahaha.....

It is sad that it has come down to this.

I know I would not want to run for office due to this poisonous atmosphere.

    So who do we get?

Just look to the south of us.

    That's who.

Somehow we have managed to shoot ourselves in the foot. Crazy, crazy, crazy ...

I'd vote for him again, actually.

It isn't that I believe he has been fantastic as the media always seems to spin his two terms. It is just that I feel that although I've disagreed with some of his positions he generally seems to have a logical approach to them.

No politician is going to make decisions and push opinions that are agreeable to all. I think that if your politician is not corrupt, and generally makes the right calls, then you are better off keeping him/her than rolling the dice on another.

In addition, I like the fact that he and his office seem much more in communication with the citizens than I am used to. He speaks out in social media and both times I wrote the mayors office I was answered.

Could be a lot worse, folks.

True enough, you don't want to trade up to someone who does a worse job.

Nenshi is ok, not quite as enthusiastic as the first year - but that's fine by me.

I hear a lot of hate for nenshi in the uber conservative world. But I have yet to hear someone explain why with specific examples of what he has done that weren't already in the works before he became mayor..

Anyone care to enlighten me? Simply saying "I don't like the guy" without any real significant example why is about the closest to an intelligent answer I've gotten from people, which isn't a very intelligent reason to not vote for someone....

Will wait to see the other candidates before deciding. Personally I don't have any complaints with Nenshi at this point so definitely won't be a "anybody but Nenshi" vote but if someone better comes along then sure why not

    Sounds like a challenge.

I don't know. I think going into 2017, Calgary now house a lot of angry and depress people that they may rightly or wrongly blame it on the mayor.
