Did you see the other thread on US popularity? Who else could have 180'd a country so hated because of it's forign policy to where it is today. That's something, not nobel peace price something, but it's something.

I have no doubt in my mind that the NPP panel is basing this award on hope, the hope that was not there before him.

The prize should be for keeping a nation calm while you cripple them into poverty by putting their money into a never ending, undeclared war without an uproar.

I would be shocked at the hypocrisy if they required anything more than "being charismatic" as a qualification...

I like the guy and think hes doing great. Not great to the point that he needs an award for it.

Maybe there running out of good people to award.

WTF do you guys mean, what has he done?

Obama got a white cop and a black professor to drink a beer, and he didn't even have to wear sandals to do it.

at the fucking idiots in here whose entire understanding of Obama's accomplishments as president come from a week-old SNL skit. start reading the news, fucktards. 95% of you don't even understand how your own government works, but you're somehow enlightened enough about US politics to say obama hasn't done anything???

^^yes, they should. all nobel prize winners are just "doing their job." and remember that the point of the prize is not simply commendation for a job well done, but also to enable and encourage future work (by both award recipients and others who are inspired by the example).

What has he done to promote world peace? Promised to pull occupying troops out of a country they US invaded for no reason? A move that will most likely plunge Iraq into a bloody civil war?

Create a surge of military troops in another country that the US invaded where they are getting hammered by a bunch of ragtag militia who ride horse and use comparitively antique weapons?

Create massive division in his own country while plunging it trillions into debt, to the point where individual states are going bankrupt. Or try and jam a multi-trillion dollar healthcare and social handholding plan down people throats while they make it obvious they don't want it.

I almost forgot the fact the was nominated 9 DAYS after he took office. What had he done in those 9 days that warranted a nomination.

If Obama doesn't get his ideas accomplished, this is setting him up for a major failure. The award may help him push his policies through and eventually finish what he set out to do, but that's the opposite way of how the awards are usually given out.

If he passed some sort of health care reform, ended violence in the middle east or something similar then I could see this award being justified. Until then...

Where there is facepalms you are likely to find bad information that isn't supported by any factual information.
