Default How much cash do you carry ?

Went to a Asian place for dinner tonight that didn't accept debit or credit cards. Needless to say the guy in front of me and my buddy didn't have any cash what-so-ever and started freaking out at the old Asian lady who just kept on directing him to just walk down the street to pick up cash. The funny part is that it wasn't some huge $40 dollar order - it was 8 dollars !

That got me wondering, how much should a person carry ? Personally I think that the absolute minimum a guy should carry is $30-$50. That's enough to cover a movie date, or a cab ride home if anything pops up.

depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing.

If I'm at the casino or a club... then 500-1000. But if it's just day to day... then usually 20 dollars in my money clip.

I don't use credit for anything except to book flights.

I only really carry cash on me if I plan on doing something that could possibly require cash, or maybe ill put a $20 in my pocket so I can top up my tank once in a while..

I don't do business with people and places like that who defraud an already accommodating government. Those are usually the same places that dont' want to provide a receipt.

I usually have about $150 or so in case the cards get flagged or something stupid. I pay with the card as much as possible. Much less negotiable than cash.

Usually around $60. I've lost count of how many times I've been picking something up and the "if you've got cash it's cheaper" thing *cough cough* has come up. Especially with industrial supply stores near closing time. They're happy to sell you things if you've got cash rather than going through credit stuff.

I found that Calgary is not bad at all for not carrying any cash. Most places accepts cc/dc regardless of how much the bill is.

On the other hand, if you dont carry cash in Vancouver/Richmond, good luck getting ANYTHING.

Use CC for 95% of purposes. $40-$100 if heading out with a group and need to pay/chip in for stuff, and of course when the machines are down.

I rarely carry cash with me. I find it disappears to quickly.
