From what I read it is as epic as the Wynn/Encore ( in terms of room design, the atmosphere is another story). I've stayed at stratosphere, Treasure Island, MGM, Mirage, New York New york, and Encore, and Encore was BY FAR the nicest room out of all those... hands down.... if the Aria/Vdara is anywhere near as nice (or nicer) then you will love it.

I know most ppl will say you are in Vegas to party and who cares where you sleep, but man having a nice room with a comfy bed and a well equipped bathroom really gives you the energy to party all day/night long. 4 hours of sleep vs 4 hours quality sleep makes a BIG differences. IMO its worth paying a little extra to stay at the nicer hotel.

I think we're looking at staying at The Hotel @ Mandalay Bay and Vdara is actually the same price as that and MGM suites so I dunno. I've stayed at The Hotel before and it is an amazing hotel. Only downside to it is it's located at the southern most part of the strip and it's a fair distance from most places.

I definitely think that staying at a nice place is well worth the money, especially since someplace like Excaliber or Luxor is only $100 cheaper over 4 nights. I think we'll probably book for Vdara since it's the same price as MGM suites and The Hotel.

Has anyone putting down the Stratosphere actually stayed there? I stayed there last April, and loved it. $28/night, and it was probably the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at. Comparable to the Westin in Whistler, minus the fireplace. The rooms are large, and recently renovated. The bathroom was massive. It's clean. I would for sure stay there again. Also, I really enjoyed the blackjack tables there. Never tried poker there though.

Yes.... have you actually stayed at any other hotel beside the stratosphere in Vegas on the stripe?? We didn't take alot of pictures cuz no one wanted to hold the camera, but here are some pics of our room at the Encore during our last trip to Vegas, and I don't even have a picture of the crazy 200sqft+ bathroom (separate large shower and bath tube, his and her sinks + LCD TV). No it's not a crazy expensive suite either. We paid $99/night...so if you have 2-3 nights divided by however many ppl you have in the room.. imo its wellll worth the upgrade.

Stratosphere does make a good view though

Yup, made the mistake of staying there for a night during one of my first trips to Vegas. It really is a shithole haha. Stay at pretty much any other hotel on the middle of the strip and you will realize how shitty it is. I am surprised to hear that it is one of the nicest hotels you have stayed at, cause for me personally, I rather stay at a Holiday Inn or a Best Western.

She drives a Ford Tempo… A civic would be a luxury car to her and thus same poor taste in Vegas hotels

Well, I suppose if people want to waste their money on a fancy hotel in which they spend no time, that's up to them. But for the op, it sounds like he'd rather spend his money on poker than on a place to sleep. And the Stratosphere is a lot nicer than any of the European hostels I've ever stayed. I haven't travelled in North America much, so it's true that I maybe have nothing to compare it to. Though, like I said, I stayed at the Westin in Whistler, and didn't think it was anything great. It had a fireplace. So does my house. It was a work trip, so I wouldn't have paid such a ridiculous price on my own. And at the moment, the op says he's going by himself, so maybe another hotel is a great place to stay if you split amongst 3 or 4 people, but $100 a night for a hotel for one person is a little retarded. I don't know what the Stratosphere was like a couple years ago, but it was renovated in 2008, so the rooms are like new.

Edit: Or maybe I just got lucky

The strat was nice for the price. As mentioned i paid something like $380 for friday and saturday night then $30 for the next few. we were barely in the hotel and didnt care how nice it was.
Compared to vegas hotels the strat is a cecil....
compared to similar priced hotels in Canada it was 5 star...

You paid $380 for Friday and Saturday at the Stratosphere? Yikes.

My buddy just paid around $130/night for Fri & Sat at The Hotel @ Mandalay Bay and is heading there this next weekend. Hell, I think I only paid $60 at the Hilton for a Friday night and it's a hole, but not quite as bad as the Strat

Yeah I'm staying at thehotel@mandalay bay Deluxe Suite for $99 a Night and at A Suite at the Palms for $99/night on a Thurs-Friday

So whoever resorts to the stratosphere is a moron, and whoever pays $380 has downs

Are there large shopping malls, if I'm looking for clothes?

If it's your first time in Vegas, pick one ON the strip for sure - if the hotels are same price/star rating. Taking buses/taxis gets old (even regardless of cost). You'll want to see everything on the Strip anyways.

This has got to be a typo. No way it cost $380 to stay there. I paid $27 on weeknights, and $38 on weekends. I think I payed a total of $195 or so for 5 nights. Split amongst 2 of us, we paid for 5 nights, 6days, what the rest of you seem to be paying for one night. The only complaint I have about the place is that it's not in the handiest location, but that's what the deuce is for

Dunno where the hell you've stayed in Europe if they were worse than the stratosphere...I've been to France and the hotels I stayed in France in were nicer than most I've been in in Canada. Stratosphere is just down right gross...

Circus Cirus is your best choice.. The riviera and Sahara are both ghetto as hell.. and I have not even heard of the Golden Gate hotel...

Is there a reason you wanna go to vegas so bad that you would go by yourself lol. Doesn't seem as fun going by yourself but that's just me.

I was thinking of staying at the Newyork Newyork. Has anyone stayed there before? Btw, I'm going with like 11 friends feb 14-19

New York new york is nice and it is in not that bad of a location...

You have MGM across the street.. Monte Carlo to its left and Excalibur to the right, I have not been in the rooms but it is decent inside.. Stay away from ROK nightclub tho the place sucks. it is like the side of hi-5

I think its either Newyork, TI, Luxor, or MGM. Depending on how much people wanna pay and if we are actually going to be staying in the hotel.

OP: How much is your budget? Hotel wise.
