Default I need help configuring linksys router to security cameras

I recently bought a security camera system.

I have it hooked up to my router. (Ethernet cord)

I have 2 steps left and I'm finished but I just can't get it to work.

The security camera manual says to have the dvr set at DHCP and HTTP Port at 1024

    I have done this.

Now it says go into the router settings and change "port range forward" to the ip address assigned by the router.

    I did this.

As soon as I click enable to save setting with the router I get an error "you cannot use the router ip network or broadcast address"

I have called Swann security camera company they don't have a clue and either did linksys tech support.

I am up half the night tonight so if anyone is out there and wants a challenge let me know.

    Thanks guys.

What IP address did your router give the DVR? Sounds like you're trying to port forward to the network (.0) or broadcast (.255) address of your network (most probably 192.168.1.x/24).

To find the IP address the router gave your DVR, go into the 'DHCP lease table' on the Linksys, probably under 'status' or similar (I'm assuming the DVR doesn't just have a screen so you can't ask it there).

Note that you don't need to port forward through your router unless you really want to access your DVR from outside your LAN (ie. from the interwebs somewhere).

screen shot your port forward settings and post it up, that'll make it a lot easier to help you.

The port is back to 1024 on the router.

You need to forward port 1024 to 192.168.1.105

    Some other things to investigate:
= static DHCP mapping for your DVR's MAC address... if your router resets, say due to power outage, your DVR may be assigned a different IP address and you won't be able to access it from outside anymore until you come home to fix it

= set up proper access control on the DVR:
    - a read-only user with a STRONG password for you to use while on the road, and;
    - an admin user with a STRONG password that is only accessible from your workstation on your LAN (ie. restricted to use from a 192.168.1.xxx address)

= use HTTPS/SSL encryption to access your DVR

These security measures will help keep your DVR and LAN under your control. Especially while on the road, you have to take extra precautions against open wifi, keyloggers, sniffers, etc.

In your first picture it gives you an IP adress for the cameras(192.168.1.105)

You need to forward port 1024 to 192.168.1.105

The IP address you are trying to forward the ports to is just the example address they have in the instructions.

Okay I have 4 cameras total do I put all the same numbers for the ip address's?

Alright now were getting somewhere...I changed the ip and saved it. No more error. Here's the change.

I also have another problem...I put my ip address and :1024 in the browser and as soon as the page loads this error keeps popping up. i googled the problem but couldn't find the right awnser for vista only windows xp which I tried but that didn't work. Here's the error.

Probably under Internet Options... Security tab... you're probably on medium level, go Custom or Advanced and look for something like "run scripts from unknown/unverified publishers", change it from disabled to PROMPT (NOT just Enabled, very bad idea).

I can't seem to find this ...I see the security tap but there's 2 security areas...one under advanced and another that just says security but either one I don't see ..

    run scripts from unknown/unverified publishers

That's rather daft of you, but it's your computers/data so what do I care.

Try 192.168.1.105 as the hostname, if that fails, RTFM.
