    Default stolen extension cord

earlier today i read the thread about people stealing wiper blades and thought that was low.

But after a long day at work today, I come home and go to plug my block heater in. But the cord isn't where it was before. Naturally I assume a room mate moved it but no.

Some chode snaked my cord. They must have walked through the alley noticed the long cord. Left foot prints beside the deck where it was plugged in.

I can't believe people resort to stealing an extension cord. Not so much concerned with the value as the inconvenience of going to pick up another cord.

Wonder if anyone's thought about exposing a live wire near the plug, so when a thief tries to steal your cord they'd get zap. And only you know where it's safe to unplugg the cord.

    Just pondering.

They would wonder why the snow all around is melted haha! (ok beyond don't get scientific now and argue this. it's a joke)

    - When you leave for work in the morning, put it in your trunk.

After work, take it from your trunk and walk to your house - plug it in, and go inside. You're not wasting anymore steps than before. The only downside is an extra 5lbs in your car, just hit the treadmill for a week - it'll balance out.

You could get one of those license plate frames with the cord holder on it. It wraps around 2 plastic tabs on the plate holder and stores your cord on the front of the car, I see them all the time. Just unravel and plug it in when you get out, this way it's with you at work and you can plug in there too.

But in my girlfriend's apartment building there's a guy there that plugs in his car and the end of the cord near the car has a bright orange LED inside it, it's the first thing you notice when walking out of the building. Every day I see it I'm surprised nobody has stolen it.

Just a thought, but perhaps you forget to unplug it at the begining of the day and its laying in the middle of deerfoot....

Well obviously know for next time to keep the cord in my car or house. After 8 years of plugging the car i guess it could be inevitable that the cord will be stolen.

I live in the SW about 30 seconds from Westhills.

Is there anything along the way to tie it to? fence? Tie a few knots in it along the way.. Most petty thiefs aren't going to take the time to stand there and untie it, and risk being caught for a cord.

Not 2 long ago, someone stole our empty bottles that were below the deck. About 15ish bux worth, its not about the money its about stealing fucking BOTTLES! Some people are chumps, it does not get any worse then that.

Nearly everyone on my block leaves their extension cords on their lawn or on some hanger by the sidewalk.

Its almost sad that we have to resort to worry about things like that getting stolen.

I would never imagine anyone looking to steal an extension cord.
    Thats ridiculous.

Had mine go missing christmas day - but I did recover it...

I love my neighbours... Apparently one of them didn't like it running across the sidewalk, so they untied it from my fence, yanked it out of the wall and tossed it in the trash bin in the park (luckily bright yellow - and very unbendable in the cold - easy to spot hanging out of the bin).

Back in the fall I augured a post hole, put in a nice cantilever in to make sure my cord didn't run across the sidewalk. (reasonable looking one - used galvanized chainlink posts, T, proper caps - looked good if you ask me); but one of them wonderful neighbours complained; and bylaw had me remove it (no permit ?!?!)

Before you go there - plugged in due to rad cap failure on the 23rd, it's now full of water; need the hydronic heater running to keep it from freezing... Suppose I should go drain/refill before it gets really cold again...

So it might not always be thievery - just a$$hole neighbours...

I always have short ones, and I've always thrown them in my trunk when I use them.

Hell when I use them at public parking lots, I roll my front tyre on the cord so it can't be stolen.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Bottles are like a currency for bums. Some people get up to get the paper, bums get up in the morning to make the plastic.

I came home one day to find a chinese lady "stealing" plastic bottles from our blue recycling bin the City of Calgary gave everyone. Got out of my truck and just watched her from 10ft away... She acted like I wasn't even there..

Finally yelled at her to get the fuck out of here. I don't need people penny pinching my recycling, just so it can lead to something else more serious in the future.
