I think this is a great idea, thoughts? As a side note, we need more people like Ald John Mar on council...

itll look nice for sure
I think Mar has done a good job on council for his first term.
If they carry this pathway down another 8 blocks, I'll have a much nicer walk to work!
Better than a Pearl Necklace.
On a serious note, I thin kit is a good idea. People might overlook some of Calgary's problems if they enjoy living here a bit more.

WHAT 5 MILLION DOLLARS! That's a fifth of a designer foot bridge!? Can't we just use a regular sidewalk? What about all those parking spots? Why don't they use the money to plow my backalley so I can get my SUV out? Why do I have to pay for this AND recycling - I don't use either....
There, got all the stupid "I pay taxes, so as I say" points out.
I'm all for stuff like this - Calgary keeps touting itself as a world class city, it's about time we start doing the little things that make it so. to Mar.

Jesus man, I know you like Transformers, but you need to get out more. No one should get this upset over a movie based on children's toys.
Dammit! You got it before me!Originally posted by freshprince1

Anyway, the idea is nice. Bring up some Calgarian morale. Much better idea compared to the "finger-trap monstrosity" of a bridge going up along memorial!
Beyond's Most Wanted
Love it! This is a way better idea than that stupid tampon bridge.
But I wonder if this will scare off or attract the hoes. I'm pretty sure I saw a couple working the corner of of 13 Ave and Centre right before x'mas.
and in 5 years when nobody cares about it anymore and it gets all trashy and used by hookers and drug dealers, we can rename it the pearl necklace.

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
Purdy! It looks quite awesome and useful!
I don't really care for it, but since I have to pay for it anyway I guess it doesn't really matter what I think about it.
Remind me to not buy an apartment on 13th. Maybe 14th. Don’t feel like being stuck with 10 years of noisy construction and after it’s done, 10 years of noise from people using it, then after that an eternity of hooker and drug dealers.
People actually walk on 13th?! Too many crack whores for my liking.
If they want to clean the place up, wouldn't it be more cost-effective to send in an "urban renewal" team to put the junkies out of their misery?
Ahaha screw both of you who beat me to the pearl necklace joke
Emerald, what a joke.. It will be dead and brown for about 7-8 months out of a year...
I don't know how the city thinks spending tons on decoration miraculously cures all social ills of a sector of the city....
I am sure the low lifes see the new trees and expensive street lamps, throw their shopping carts to the side and put all their rewards of panhandling towards bike helmets, fannypacks and rollerblades and suddenly develop a personal want for full time employment
Edit: I found the real reason.
"The work will eliminate 45 parking stalls on the north side of 13th Avenue."..
More anti car BS

Too loud for Aspen
develop the river front and put in restaurants and clubs on the river like in San Antonio. Then spend money on sidewalks.

I think John Mar should run for mayor.
