Default Lexus issued stop sale on LH460/600 models

    http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/24/l...0-and-ls-600h/

True to predictions, The Detroit News is reporting that Lexus has issued a stop sale on its LS 460 and LS 600h (standard and long-wheelbase) luxury sedans due to a problem with the electronic steering system that can temporarily cause the steering wheel to become off-centered. Apparently, the wheel will return to its correct position after about five seconds of misalignment. Toyota issued a recall on Friday, May 21st to address the defect. Click here to see the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Although Toyota has reportedly fixed the problem on new models rolling down the assembly lines in Japan, those recalibrated machines are not expected to hit dealership lots in America until the middle of June. In the meantime, the 3,800 or so owners of affected 2009 and 2010 LS sedans are being urged to avoid turning the steering wheel rapidly after holding it in full lock in the opposite direction.

We would imagine that there are certain scenarios where following such advice may prove difficult to follow, but Toyota is so far reporting that no injuries or accidents have been caused by the issue.
Another hit for toyota/lexus. A lot of problems involving steering and motion... I just had to post it, dang!

Seriously. What is goin on at Toyota!? I've been of the opinion that with all the technology going in to cars these days you're going to get recalls and problems from time to time. But its getting hard to defend the Toyota name.

This is in sharp contrast to a company such as Ford, where even the biggest of import fanboy-tards have a difficult time putting the company down with the strides they've made in the past 24 months.

Oh yeah, um NO. Not to this degree. Electronic steering that loses alignment during operation? Yeah, that's not 'little'.

Toyota is insane for issueing stop sales on their vehicles just because of a small problem that hasn't caused any accidents. Although it's a responsible thing to do it's also marketing suicide. And yes these types of issues plague all vehicle manufacturers but you don't hear about them.

They're hoping their 'responsible approach' will redeem them in the eyes of their customers.

Unfortunately it's pretty evident that Toyota employs morons in its P.R. department these days - they're basically advertising how shitty their quality control has become. People will always focus on the negative.

    Update:

What the problem actually looks like:

Mis-aligned is a nice way of putting it. This is 180 degrees off!

This is shockingly true. I berated the Focus in its first years, and kept banging on that Ford should import the ideas and technologies of its UK division for years on end.... so what do they do? Import the technologies and ideas of their UK division. I recently drove a new Fusion (2009 model) and the gear change is snappy, the car handles brilliantly and I found it quite comfortable. I was shocked. I was ready to berate, jive, jib and otherwise make bad comments about a Ford.... but I have to lay down my prejudice and say that Ford is actually building reasonable cars now o_O

Notice how it choose to skip Honda and lump the whole GM into 1 single number.

Toyota/Lexus is really worried about this PR nightmare.

I like how they try to dismiss the idea of number of recalls and then give a statistic using it.

If you divide the total number of GM recalls by 7 you get approx 545 recalls per GM company. Seems only fair to separate them if your going to list Toyota and Lexus separately

I know for a fact, after all this negative PR going around about Toyota, I would NEVER buy one. I would rather look into something else.

Yah I don't know why Kevin combined GM all together, if you used that reasoning BMW has less recalls than Lexus/Toyota. I don't like seeing Toyota have that many recalls, it shows people that they have pride in the Lexus vehicles they produce but don't give a damn about the quality of the Toyotas they sell.
