God what a boring game. Barely what you'd call competition. If the Flames had played with any skill they would have buried the Canucks. I don't think I saw one pass of theirs that was dead on. I think they lulled Lu into sleep and snuck in that shutout breaker. Apparently Canucks's play-by-play guy, John shorthouse announces near the end of the game..."Lu is 16 seconds away from a shutout...". Way to go Shorty

You know as shitty as is it to lose, I think the flames can take a little bit of solace away from the game. The canucks are absolutely red hot, the number one team in the league and on a 6 (7 now) game win streak. Calgary is on the bottom, fighting for a playoff position. Last time we played them we were blown out 7-2 in a shockingly bad performance. This time not only did we keep it to a 3-1 game, we outshot them 2-1.

Hopefully now they can take the loss, but keep the momentum they've been building by continuing to improve and hopefully put together some more win streaks of 3 and 4 games in a row.

edit: Mind you, I didn't see the game being in the UK it was on at 3am. This is just info gleaned from stats, videos and other forums (flames.com and canucks.com). Reading what c_dave wrote maybe im totally off... lol!

The shot count is very misleading. There were a ton of perimeter shots that had no shot at going in unless Lu really shit the bed.

Flames maybe had slightly more good scoring chances then the Canucks but couldn't convert where as Van capitalized on almost all their chances.

Overall, outside of Jackman and maybe Backlund, a very uninspired effort. Not their worst game but they have definitely played much better a few games ago.

By all rights, that was a winnable game for Calgary. The Canucks were nowhere near the top of their game, and only won due to superior scoring ability... not because they put in a good effort.

Kipper didn't have the best game in the world, and despite Calgary having a lot of shots on net, only a handful were really good scoring chances.

The Flames have to find a way to win games like this. Granted, the Canucks are on a major roll but it is going to come to an end eventually, and this was a good opportunity for that to happen.

Still, overall, the Flames outplayed Vancouver last night. Hopefully they can take that away from the game and apply it to the Detroit game.
