    Default Haircut Tipping Etiquette...

The place I get my haircut gives you a free touch-up cut (ie: you drop in for a quick 5-10min trim 2-3 weeks after your haircut). My question is... do you need to tip on the touch-up cut? I try to leave a nice tip after the original cut so I don't feel like a douche for not tipping on the touch-up cut.

^^ why not tip less at the original cut then you have something to tip the next time you get your touch up.

Where do you go? How is the price? Sounds like a good place.

if you're a regular there, you dont have to tip for touch ups. especially if it only takes like <10 min

Free touch up? I'd say a mandatory $5 tip would be the minimal in my books.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

The place is called Avenue, and their prices are very reasonable... $31.50 (tax included) for a haircut and they will wash your hair and give you a quick scalp massage and hot towel beforehand.

I leave $40 for the initial cut, no tip on the touch-up...

If you see the same girl every time, I'd leave a $5 touch-up tip... you might see longer scalp massages that way.

$15 tip on a $25 haircut? She giving you a nice tug after she is done too?

I don't just give her the tip. She gets it all. Then again, it's my wife that does the clipping for me ever since I started just clipping it down to a #2.

I keep things simple. I tip 20%, unless I'm really unimpressed. If I get something for free, I add that cost to the tip. If that works out to <$5 I tip $5.

One of things I don't like is when people who normally tip 20%, get bad service and then tip 10% anyway. In my mind it's an all or nothing deal. At 10% the person you're tipping is just going to think you're cheap, and will never realize you're not happy with the service.

Also keep in mind, anyone working a job where tipping is standard, they're making next to nothing as an hourly wage. I would hands down rather give a few extra bucks to that hard working person than to some bum on the street.

I get my sides trimmed/shaved every two weeks, which i would consider a touchup. I get the top done once a month as i dont mind it being a bit longer, as long as my sides arent over grown.

I usually find a good hairdresser and stick to them. I double the price of my haircut and that's the tip. It gets me a haircut whenever I call, they'll bump other clients for me and get a touch up whenever I drop in.

I get my hair cut every 3 weeks. By cut I mean top and sides. I like to keep it short and my hair grows pretty quickly.

    Jlude, you tip very well...

I don't really get tipping on a service you're already paying for though? I understand tipping a server if they make the effort or tipping a cabbie if he helps you with your bags etc, but I never get tipping someone for doing something you already agreed a price to pay them for. If they do something outside the bounds of what you'd expect from a haircut then fine, I'll tip, but I usually just sit down and let the dude cut my hair and then I pay the price on the wall that he's asking for for the service and leave. It's not like he does anything beyond what I'm paying him for.
Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I should also note that I don't let anyone use clippers on me. I want it done properly with scissors, so it takes a little longer, but I like it better.

I was running late to the airport on Tuesday, told the cabbie I'd tip him 20+ if he dropped the hammer, sure enough, he was doing 80 in a 50 zone the whole time and got me to the airport on time. In calgary, the cabbie would laugh at you. In Winnipeg, people are very frugal.
