    Default Civic door lock issue

    Hello.

I was in a car accident with my 2003 2 door Civic Coupe in which I ended up going over a short guard rail. Part of the damage was a pushed out driver rocker panel, and a dented in door frame on the drivers side. The door frame damage is only evident on the bottom.

The driver door wouldn't close due to the pushed out rocker panel, so I took a hammer and knocked the panel in enough so the door closed properly. However, since the accident, my door locks no longer work properly.

Using my main and secondary door remote, the doors won't lock, and only open about 1 in 20 tries. Using my main and secondary keys is of little help, as either key won't insert into the driver door lock, and I usually can't get the keys to insert in the passenger door lock.

I suspect something is binding in the lock mechanism on the driver side, so I'm going to take off the door panel and inspect the lock system.

Does anyone have advice or suggestions before I proceed?

    Thank you.

Get your car fixed without a hammer

It's still drivable, but the rocker panel was pushed out by about an 1/8", which prevented the door from closing. So I used the hammer to knock the panel back a bit, so I could drive without holding the door closed

Anyway, the accident occurred when I was on an off ramp and another driver was trying to reverse back through the on ramp. The driver swerved into my lane, I swerved to avoid, but lost control and went over the guard rail. The other driver took off.

Since I have no witnesses, if I get the vehicle fixed through my insurance, my insurance will double and my rating will go from the highest to the lowest. Well, that's what my insurance company says.

    WTF?

Haven't you ever seen someone try to reverse on an exit ramp?

To clarify, the other driver was reversing on the shoulder, when he weaved out into the exit ramp traffic lane.

    WTF?

I usually slow down if there is a car doing something stupid... at least enough to not lose control on the off-ramp and actually go over the rail
you must have been flying lol...

You said you were on the off-ramp > the other car was going back up the on-ramp - and he caused you to crash...

To start with your fix - take the door skin off to see why its not working lol

Shit, I'm just asking for advice before I take the door panel off.

The accident occurred about three months ago on snow covered roads. Following that, I thought I would just buy another car and started a posted titled something like, "Recommendations on a hatchback".

I'm 42 years old, and that's the only accident I've been in since my late teens. I geared down and tried to avoid the front end collision, but I slid and went over the rail.

I'm a computer tech by trade, and my vehicle repair knowledge is limited to brake jobs, valve jobs, and basic vehicle mechanical repair. However, the last time I worked on a vehicle was about 20 years ago. So, I'm just trying to find out if such a repair should be done by Honda, or could I do it myself with some guidance from the members of this forum.

I guess a good advice is to take your car to Honda or a Honda authorized service center near you and let them do the repair. You see what happened when you took the matter into your own hands and hammered the panel in

    Thanks.

It's sure odd that my key won't insert into either door.

Not only did the WD40 allow the key to insert, but my remote now works

    Thanks Rat Fink!
