What's the minimum space needed for drop down ceilings?

Want to install it in my garage, but am worried about the garage doors. With the doors open, they are 4.5" from the ceiling. Is 4" enough space? Or even better 3"?

I did my basement with around 3", probably even less. I used flexible fibreglass panels that allowed me to bend it into places that a solid piece wouldn't fit into.
