Default Wine/Champagne to buy for GF's parents?

I need to buy a bottle of wine/champagne for my GF's parents - was looking in the $40 range (Even possible?). They aren't wine connissuers (Or however you spell that), so it's not like they need the best.

What's the best around that price? Would I be better off going for a cheap champagne in that price?

I don't drink at all, so if you could provide a name that I could ask for that'd be great - and I'd prefer to be able to find it at a liquor store (Not some store in the middle of nowhere).

Summer Hill Ehrenfeltzer if you can find it (try willow park). Its a good wine that appeals to a wide range of tastes, and is especially enjoyed by people who aren't connaisseurs. Its also rare enough that its something special, as opposed to whatever is on the clearance rack at your local wine shop

Sawmill Creek Autumn blush is probably what you're thinking.

Icewine is great, but for some its definitely going to be too sweet.

Icewine is good but very sweet. The $40 bottles only have two glass fulls in them.

Try to find a late 90's Wolf Blass from Australia. Wine of the year in 2003.

Okay if you're not looking for an ice wine, look for an australian wine called "mad fish" wine...VERY good stuff, kinda hard to find though (most big liquor stores should have it though if you look hard enough) not very expensive either

You might want to find out what your having for dinner. Most who drink wine regularly will drink red. If that is the case I would grab a good Australian like Penfold's Koonunga Hill Cab Merlot 2002. It's smooth wine that won't be too harsh for people whom aren't big wine drinkers but it is an excellent choice for people who will apperciate it, plus it will only cost about $20.
