Plexiglass for my shed?

My sheds roof is plastic and starting to show its age, cracks all over which leak when it rains or snows. I am thinking of re-doing it in plexiglass, which will cover it and let some light in there. What do you guys think? Is there a better solution? Where can I get sheets of it here, Home Depot?

You can, but they are usually pre-sized and a little pricey. Try Industrial Plastics. Maybe Industrial Plastics and Paints? Something like that.

Totem sells them as well. in 4x8 sheets also i believe (1/4 inch sheets)

1/4 inch on a shed roof might actually be too thin, with the extreme hailstorms we have been getting.

Id price out 5/8 if you can find it.

Yea.. not an expert. I figure if the price difference is only a few bucks why not go thicker? nothing wrong with thicker

You may want to try using corrugated FRP panels. They are translucent and designed for roofing.

Plexi will cost you arm and leg, and the stuff is a PITA to cut without it cracking/chipping/shattering. Lexan is easy to cut and work with, but costs even more. But if you really want it, as mentioned above IPP (Industrial Paints & Plastics) that's where I get all my stuff. That store is a hidden gem for DIY car enthusiasts, they sell carbon fiber cloth and kevlar for repairs as well.

Plexi / acrylic just needs the right blade.

I built a large shed (9 ft x 16 ft) beside my garage and wanted it to look nice and be able to see inside so I used the FRP panels.

Home Depot had 2 types. Cheaper option is terrible wavy ones that look like this:


I bought the "squared off" ones in dark grey (looks almost like 60% window tint from the outside).

Looks something like this:


It was easy to put up you just have to put the blade on your skill saw on backwards and it cuts right through it perfectly (but sounds horrible). I don't remember my cost but it isn't cheap I think it was somewhere around $700 or something for the roof. It is one of those things though that you do once and its finished.
