I've used the cheap $25 ebay ones with good success.

The PLX kiwi is very cool and will transmit via wifi to your Iphone or Blackberry etc

Or the Innovate wideband with integrated scanner....

Or there is the DashDaq fro Drew Tech, nice unit.

I have this one, silver in color but same shit, and it works AWESOME, i keep it in my truck (was getting misfire codes...turned out my plugs had 1/8" gaps...LOL)
