RCMP are warning motorists to exercise caution when driving in winter conditions after a pedestrian was struck by a motorist Tuesday afternoon in Airdrie. Just before 3:30 p.m., Airdrie RCMP responded to an accident at the corner of Meadowbrook Drive and East Lake Boulevard in the city.
Police believe a Toyota Yaris was turning southbound onto Meadowbrook Drive from East Lake Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 59 year old woman, was in the crosswalk area at the time of the collision.
The victim was transported to hospital in Calgary to be treated for minor injuries.
Based on the initial investigation, police believe the collision was the result of road and weather conditions combined with inattention on the part of the pedestrian.
Police warn that even though the weather has improved that there are still some icy patches on the roads and advise caution for both drivers and pedestrians.
