    Default first thing first

im about to buy a used 240sx 96-97 after buying it i want to turn it into a sweet street car but not just for the looks it must go fast. I love speed! (as in moving fast). Starting inside out what you you guys think would be the first engine mod. i should do.

Does anybody know any good 240sx sites that i can purchase parts from?

    thanks for your time

Great potential... if you have the money, sr20det is the way to go... if you dont now, this is an engine from JDM sylvia. in your case it will be an s15. 205hp stock. Many after market mods for this engine, and car... Great looking car... I drive a 1990 s13 (240sx), but the s15, has way more potential, i think any way. tons of people on this site, do some searchs on sr20det, youll find a sh*t load of info on it, its one of the hottest things these days... youll have no trouble finding info

I have an S13 red top, and this is a really nice engine. Its fun, turbo , but not exactly fuel efficient...

So I imagine the newer S15 blacktop would be much more fun. This mod will run you over 5000 installed. Try http://www.autodream.ca, if they can't help you with the SR20DET, they can prolly tell you what other mods you can do...

Why do you figure he has to get an S15? The S15 isn't too much different. It comes with variable valve timing, a T28 instead of the T25 and 6 speed tranny. Buying an S14 SR would probably be a better bang for your buck.

The S15 engine alone would probably cost at least $5000, from where I have seen anyways
    Try www.heavythrottle.com

For NA upgrades you could go with an Injen intake and exhaust to boost your power up a little

"Starting inside out what you you guys think would be the first engine mod. i should do."He Does'nt Mention a Swap? He Talks About Modding his Engine. This is What My Question Was,Because the Stock Engine that Came in the Na car is From What i Understand Not Very Remarkable.I have a s13 240sx,And yes with a sr20 the are really good but the s14 with minor mods(And No Swap)will be nothing to write home about.IMO

If he Likes the Look,Then Great But if he's aiming to be really fast without a swap i don't think a 96-97 240sx Is going to Be all that blazingly Quick.

Properly turboing the KA24DE would give impressive results. Some people are chosing this route instead of the SR swap. But then again that would cost a lot of money to do correctly as well.

There's alot of people that choose to turbo the KA, but it's alot of work, time, and money.
For the money invloved, an SR motor makes more sense to me.

With a 96 S14 (not S15 like someone said), focus your cash on some minor cosmetics first! Rims, springs, struts, seats, interior..... It doesn't make sense to swap out the engine if you have really low mileage on the stock engine. Once you get it looking good, then you can plan to have a new engine put in over a future winter (which will save it from the snow while it's in the shop too).

doood.... did everyone just totally have an oversight or not notice the "96-97" 240sx thing?
the S14s came in two models: 95-96 and 97-98... no such thing as a 96-97

as for why people want SRs... it's the novelty of having one.

u are looking to spend atleast 15 gs for a good 97-98 240sx due to their rarity. if you're looking for power and speed i suggest the black top s14 sr20 engine with upgraded turbo , injectors and intercooler. if thats outof ur league then do the basic bolt ons ,exhaust , intake , headers and chip it
