Here's the rough scoop of what I had to go through.
Provincial incorporation through registry ($150-300)
Business Number from the CRA
Payroll and GST number for you and your employees from the CRA
Company insurance (if required) ($300/year maybe)
WCB ($200/year maybe)
and you'll probably need an accountant and a separate business bank account.
You'll also need to set up GST returns quarterly, semi, or annual. And you have to re-up your registration, WCB, and insurance every year.

what someone drives doesn't impact their knowledge base.. though I can see the basis of your knowledge is severely lacking.
to the OP: listen to the two people that know what they are talkign about here. It's much easier to do it on your own.
To be fair it's a nice Tempo...
Well I think for sure you will need an accountant and they will know everything you need to do and be able to help you out.
My sis in law told me there was some federal fee or tax or something that was like 800/month. I was very surprised as it seemed like a huge amount. Anyone know anything about this?

1. Get Incorporated (provides numbered alberta company).
2. NUANS search for the company name u want.
3. Change numbered to name you want.
4. Make sure u have some notebook to use as "Minutes". You need to use this everytime you have a meeting with yourself making company decisions (opening bank accounts, paying yourself dividends, etc...).
5. City of Calgary business license (Class 1 can be applied for easily and cheap, Class 2 is hella expensive and a hasle, but still doable).
6. GST number with Federal gov for collecting and paying GST. (If your loosing money the first 1-2 years, ie. investing your own money, buying stuff for company, having GST will actually GIVE you money, haha)
7. Payroll BS is only needed if your hiring people, if your self employed, you don't need it.
8. BUY QUICKBOOKS, TRACK EVERYTHING and make sure you do it properly.
9. End of fiscal year, make sure you do your effin taxes... If you (personally) and your company (corporation) took a loss, or if you made pennies, do your taxes yourself using Quicktax... If you made a decent amount (I'd say over 40G, get an accountant, u want to pay yourself differently from salary (dividends)).
Some stuff I put up above isn't relevant, just my 2 cents trying to help

I recommend pm'ing DJ NAV unless you're familiar with taxation of small businesses. There's a lot of tax planning that an accountant can help you with that you might not know about. Things like the small business deduction and dividends, etc. Also just general bookkeeping information that would be useful to have, like tracking your cash flows. I'd offer my help, but I work for a public accounting firm and am not allowed to provide services to non-clients
If you think it will help you I have a Alberta Incorporation kit that I never ended up using that you can have.Originally posted by accounting4life

I just went through this a few weeks ago.
I went to AMA to register. It was $199.95 + 39.95 for a minute book (Which honestly, you can just buy a binder for $2.49 and call it your minute book). It's just a binder to keep all your crap organized in.
I picked up some shares certificates from the registry beside future shop in the NE. $2.49 each. You'll need to issue shares to yourself to own the company.
I just used unlimited class A voting shares in my articles of incorporation and issued myself 1 share to keep it simple.
Directors, typically 1-7, or 1-10 is the norm.
