^And is there some part that troubles you?

The only thing that bothers me somewhat is this portion under "Inappropriate Content":

...You are responsible for information published to the Web or other Internet services, through your account. Shaw reserves the right to refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, that it, at its sole discretion, deems to be offensive, indecent, or otherwise inappropriate regardless of whether such material or its dissemination is unlawful.

Shaw has no obligation to monitor transmissions made on the Services. However, Shaw has the right to monitor such transmissions and to disclose the same in accordance with Shaw’s Privacy Policy...
I'm not sure how they would do the first, but whatever...

I'm curious about how far they take the second underlined 'reserved right'. Are they saying that they can read my emails, just because they feel like it?

I imagine the first is simply a broadly worded "If you use your Shaw webspace or Shaw-hosted newsgroups to post porn and racism we'll remove it". They're not saying they'll remove something you post on Beyond.

WRT the 2nd, they can monitor whatever you send and receive. So yes, they could read your unencrypted e-mails and IMs while browsing the porn you recently downloaded.

Aside from that I just got my extreme upgrade to boardband 50. I did the shaw internet test and I'm getting constant 13Mpbs. Not even close to 50 as advertised. what up with that?

    Hi guys,
sorry I haven't been around to respond - I was at an all day conference yesterday and just getting into the office this morning.

Grogodor - We have the Unlimited 100 package for you that automatically upgrades to Unlimited 250 once Phase 2 rolls around. Sounds like this might be a good option for you.

    Kg810 - You've got PM.

cotang/Troll-ol - If you aren't getting the proper speeds, fire us an email at [email protected] and I'll have one of my guys give you a call. They'll check everything with you and if needed, we'll send out a tech to take a look.

Nah, I used to take a peek into the caching server back in the old days. *probably too much information*

It was illegal to know exactly what information was going where, but as a generalized cache - you got to see all sort of goat pr0n. Nothing phazes me anymore, when the monkey drinking his own pee craze first got converted to streaming internet video, well lets just say its like netflix is now... Massive bandwidth hog, and never underestimate primal human nature.

I'm more interested in that Saskatchewan gets a "Shaw High-Speed Express, 60 gigabytes" teir.
    Cocoa $11,000 per tonne.

The plans look nice but until I hear that people are getting anywhere near the advertised speeds, I won't be paying triple for the same speeds and I'll keep milking my Xtreme-I. My wiring is shiny and Crusty says my levels/noise/errors are hunky-dory yet I can still barely crack 20mbits. I dunno what they've done to the channel plan to make space for all those 3.0 channels but knowing Shaw I'm not convinced the nodes/hubs/backbone can handle these speeds.

Getting upgraded to Business 50 (50 down/5 up) in a few hours. Will post an update when I get it.

Fair enough. Keep in mind that we recently upgraded all of our Extreme customers to 25Mbps automatically at no extra charge, and now with these new packages we're getting a tremendous amount of customers signing up so we're working furiously to ensure the best service for everyone. Admittedly, there will be some who aren't getting optimum speeds and we're happy to troubleshoot and send out a tech at no charge if necessary.

As for freeing up space, we're converting all analog tier channels to digital which triples our network capacity, albeit this is Phase 2 and will take place over the next 16 months. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat about your personal account and whether there's something that will work for you, either now or in the future.

Awesome, congrats! That will open up the downstream big time. When I asked about going all-digital about five years ago, management looked at me like I was from Mars So basic 2-22 will stay analog for now? Shaw can pull it off but it won't be pretty, especially for the guys out chasing return noise for all that new upstream.

I'm getting upgraded to Broadband 50 on Saturday. Need a tech out to swap my modem and test the network for me. I'm running regular high-speed right now with 7.5 down and 512kbps up. Should be quite the change for me. I've been doing a lot of downloading and streaming lately, so I thought I should get upgraded. Let you know how it goes.

Lol I know going all-digital seems like the logical thing to do, but it's a difficult decision for us to make. We have a million+ customers who are either purely analog with no desire to switch to digital (ie. Grandma who just wants the simplicity of her TV remote that she's gotten used to for decades) or those that have a digital box on some TVs but not on others.

It was hard choice for us to decide that we'd interrupt the customer experience of these customers to satisfy what amounts to be less than 10% of our Internet customers (at least currently) who need more data and desire more speed. We've basically shifted from a cable TV provider to primarily an ISP.

There's no question that with time, this number will increase dramatically and usage is increasing fast so it's the right decision to make, but that's probably why your suggestion years was met with concern haha.

But to answer your question - yes analog channels in basic will remain analog, we're only converting those that are in tiers 1, 2 and 3.

I LOVE you man.... In a buddy buddy kinda way... Not the way gay buddy way...

Calling right now to upgrade to the Shaw biz 100 plus plan... This is overkill for my small home biz... But I just love shaw and their network WAY too much...

Finally getting that 11.21 Jiggawatts needed!

Well the good news is, I can hit 50mbps by downloading from 10 places at once. The bad news is, none of the speedtest servers can serve me that bandwidth so I can't really show it lol!

The 5mbps upload is awesome. HD streaming!

    What's the point of that?

I have a gigabit connection at work and most of the Speedtest servers max out between 15-25 mbps.

Using speedtest.net for the new Shaw connections is pointless. Real world testing is the only way one will be able to accurately gauge how good their connection is.

Thanks tips, guess I should have said "can you attempt to max out your Shaw connection from multiple fast nearby sources?" Try www.arcticnetwork.ca

Anarchy, is it just my router (wrt54g) cuz im maxing out at around 25Mbps on wired connections

Apparently I got one of the last modems in the city. Functioning pretty well.

You won't be able to fill the pipe using the wrt54g WAN port.
