    Default Rice cooker recommendations?

Looking to buy one, mid range, I understand Tiger, Zojirushi and National are good brands...

Since i can remember, Tiger and Sanyo have been the only 2 rice cookers my family and i have ever.bought. Familys Tiger has.been going strong for 10 plus and my Sanyo is just over a year old that steams veggies (or dumplings, shumai w/e you want), Martin Yan's preferred rice cooker too lol

Don't cheap out. I did, and I wasted money on a crappy Sanyo.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Logic --made in Japan, expensive but probably the best rice cooker out there.I have been using Tiger for the last 20 yrs and I thought Tiger was the best until I bought Zojirushi as a recommendation from a friend. I wish I bought this rice cooker since day 1.

I have the same one, assuming you have the ZOJIRUSHI NS-DAC10. Some people don't like these modern rice cookers because they don't create that "crust" at the bottom. I love it

This is the one we bought recently, works great.

Had a Japanese Sanyo before (JDM styles) and worked well, but this is high tech for sure in comparison.

Don't know what the other one people are talking about is all about, but they have it on amazon.ca

This chart is super useful if you decide to go with Zojirushi

    Another vote for Tiger here.

Had it in the family for at least 6 or 7 years now, works as good as the day we bought it.

So what makes a rice cooker better than another?

I just got myself a 5.5 cup Panasonic rice cooker that does the job.

Zojirushi FTW here! Bought a crappy whiteman Betty Crocker one when I first moved out... never again! JDM is the only way to go for rice cookers.

The fit and finish is much nicer and the non-stick material on the bowl and lid is so much better.

If you're going to buy local, I suggest looking at Walmart.

I bought my Tiger one for ~$70 and the exact same model at some chinese stores were ~$170

Look at the comparison chart I posted above, it shows kind of all the features that are available, and most cheap ones don't have those features. If you don't need them than your good with a cheap one, but even then they make the rice taste different.

True, if you don't mind made in China Tiger rice cooker. On the contrary, the chinese stores are selling the ones made in Japan ... The Asian guys know what they're buying, you don't go to Walmart to buy bag of rice neither.
