This is absolutely disgusting. If you get a serious illness in Alberta and you're not a baller, you're a goner. Fuckin' pathetic.

its like this one time i was waiting in line for icecream, and buddy came outta no where and budged me cause he knew the guy selling it.
i was so flippin mad..
People who don't get the favors bitch about them, nothing new here. The real funny part is that people are demanding MLAs be tossed in jail over this. Exactly what laws were broken here?
See Crank. See Crank Walk. Walk Crank Walk.
It's sort of part of basic human morality and dignity to wait your turn, especially when you're responsible for the lines in the first place, and everyone in line has paid for the service.Originally posted by FraserB

It's immoral and it gives the people that have the power to change the system a false sense of success within the system.
I don't care much for putting anyone in jail over this, it should simply not be the case that anyone get special treatment.
They chose a socialist medical system, let them experience it.

"Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners."
I suspect that no one with a serious or critical illness was bumped if it even happened at all.
The only "evidence" so far comes from a single anecdotal comment from Raj Sherman.
I don't know, you hear all the horror stories about how bad the health care system is but a friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer and had great treatment.
From the time the lump was discovered at the end of May 2010, biopsied in June and started chemo in July. She completed radiation treatment in February 2011.
She was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer so she had to go and do MRI's between June / July to make sure it had not spread too far, it was found in her lymph nodes in her armpit so they were removed.
I think the health care system took great care of her and she is by no means rich. Even the support systems in place helped her and her family through a really difficult time and I am happy to say she is cancer free right now.
You better become baller like all of us then.
What's pathetic is the conclustion you jumped to, you should be in track and field with a leap like that.Originally posted by heavyfuel

My first thought was this violated the Canada Health Act, I could be wrong but to me it's not uniform service if there is queue-jumping. I've bolded the section below :Originally posted by FraserB
. Exactly what laws were broken here?
Edit: added in :"Universality"
Universality
10. In order to satisfy the criterion respecting universality, the health care insurance plan of a province must entitle one hundred per cent of the insured persons of the province to the insured health services provided for by the plan on uniform terms and conditions.
Accessibility
12. (1) In order to satisfy the criterion respecting accessibility, the health care insurance plan of a province
(a) must provide for insured health services on uniform terms and conditions and on a basis that does not impede or preclude, either directly or indirectly whether by charges made to insured persons or otherwise, reasonable access to those services by insured persons;
(b) must provide for payment for insured health services in accordance with a tariff or system of payment authorized by the law of the province;
(c) must provide for reasonable compensation for all insured health services rendered by medical practitioners or dentists; and
(d) must provide for the payment of amounts to hospitals, including hospitals owned or operated by Canada, in respect of the cost of insured health services.
Anyone can really "queue jump". Let's take MRI's for instance. The way the system is setup, everyday the techs have a list of ppl that are scheduled for an MRI that day from the big year long wait list. There are missed appointments every single day, and if you're around, the techs can queue jump you in. There's ppl that's missed previous appointments that hang out and wait for these openings.
Now, if you know an MRI tech, you can get txt'd when there is an opening. Everyone does this, not just politicians.
If you don't want queue jumpers, you'd make the system even more inefficient. Force the techs to do nothing if someone missed an appointment haha. It's not like they're pushing ppl out of line for preferential treatment.

Right from the article.
"Sherman said while he can't talk about specific cases, no one in critical condition was ever denied treatment because a queue jumper was getting medical help."
Way to be alarmist and take something WAY out of proportion.
A politician using his authority and position for personal gain?
MY GOD THIS IS SHOCKING NEWS!!!!

i have a co-worker whose boyfriend was on a year+ waiting list for surgery, but was jumped in queue because he knew someone who was connected.
Not saying it's fair or right but why are you so surprised OP?
Money, fame, power and having the right friends with one of the above gives many people perks and advantages over the rest of the population. It's been going on since forever and will continue to go on.
Maybe not for such a sensitive and potentially important issue but I am sure everyone here is guilty of favoring a family member or friend over someone you don't know.

Just boobs. That's how we party.
An hour and ten minutes later and I still can't believe what a sensationalizing and alarmist fucking moron you are. Nicely done.
You'd better print out pamphlets to hand out at doctor's offices so people coming out know they are going to die. They'd likely appreciate the notice so they can get their affairs in order.

You should apply for a job at the CBC.
True, but those involved need to be outed and dealt with in the next election. Elected to serve all equally, or at least the appearance to do so. Abusive conduct in the least.Originally posted by FraserB

As Gamma Ray said, Welcome to the real world.. And the show!
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."
-H.P. Lovecraft
