realistically get whatever is the cheapest with the features you want, they are all made by basically 2-3 companies and are painted a different color with different stickers, that is until you get into good commercial units.

I suggest something honda powered, they are quiet and are a great engine.

The only other thing is be sure to ask where you can get the unit serviced, if you buy a mower with warranty and you cannot get it serviced then ther eis not much point for warranty.

Hmm, I'll play the "Beyond lawn Baller" lol. I got a Honda lawn mower a few years back and the thing is great!

They're not the cheapest but I just love the thing. It mulches like nobody's business, you cant even see any grass left over on the lawn. I haven't had to bag a single bag of grass this year at all, and I usually let it grow pretty long.

Whatever you do - dont get a manual one - even if you are all into saving the environment they really dont do a good job.

Im so fed up with mine that i just use my gas powered weedwhacker to mow my lawns

Depends on how much lawn you have and what type of powered mower you are looking for.

The family picked up an awesome John Deere for around $20,000 about 10 years ago. That also gave us a 54" deck, front end loader, tow-behind grass collector, and a 50 gallon spray tank. That thing has given us no problems in it's 10 years of service so far.

If you are in-city, I would just buy a Honda or John Deere push mower. They can be had for around the $400 mark.

Just go to the store and buy something!

I think people (including me) can overanalyze. I just went to the store and bought one that seemed to have some good features and was a brand I'd heard of before.

Boring story and analysis, if it helps:

I haven't bought a new lawnmower in a long time and I just bought a Lawn-Boy one from Home Depot. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

    Here it is: http://www.homedepot.ca/product/lawn...l-mower/925498
It was on sale for $299.00 when I bought it about two weeks ago.

I have no idea if it's going to be reliable or not - the engne is made by Kohler and I know nothing about Kohler engines, but for $300, I don't think I can go very wrong. There are comments that the bagger doesn't work that well - I've just been mulching so I don't know. I can say the mulching works very well.

Also, assembly was literally 5 minutes. I just had to unfold the handle and pour in the oil and gas - so assembly shouldn't be an issue.

I do own a landscaping company

The Top brands (if you are wondering)

    Toro
    Lawn Boy
    Ariens
    Exmark
    Huskvarna
    Honda

Any of these brands will take what ever you can throw at them

They all have entry level models that are good for homeowner use....Check kijiji for any of these brands as even Lawn Boy commercials can be found for 300 bucks

Places to buy (that are not large retail).....Alberta Forest and Garden, Action Engines (they sell used as well....watch out for the used guy, Andre, he talks a mile a minute and over prices expecting you to counter.) Arns Equipment and EJ Mower Center

Also note when people are saying Honda mower, it is not a craftsman or a yard works with a honda motor. It is a full Honda branded mower, they have great clutching systems and propel systems.

That being said I am pretty sure the lowest priced Honda mower is around $800-1000, which is inline with the rest of the GOOD/true commercial mowers.

A John Deere mower from Lowes is the exact same as a crafstman, yardworks, new lawnboys, etc etc etc.

    This all being said.

I work on them everyday, from all manufacturers.

If you are not a moron (engine oil in the gas tank and gas in the crankcase) don't hit a large obstacle and properly maintain it pretty much any mower will last the average home owner 15+ years.

    I currently use a 1970's OMC LawnBoy.

Have the same one. Love it. Although ive been tempted
To put a shorter spring on the throttle to get a bit more revs out of it
Sometimes it peters out on the power. One
Good thing is that it starts first pull every time. Had it for about a month now and so far no issues.

I have one that was bought 24 years ago and passed to me. I've NEVER changed the oil in it, I've NEVER sharpened the blades and I modified the exhaust. All it needs is a new wheel adjuster and pull chord. It mows like a mofo.
