Where to buy slate tile cheap?

I want to redo the floors in our kitchen and living room in slate tile. I don't know where to buy the tile though. I'm just looking for some cheap 12X12 tiles.

I did my condo years ago and got a really good price on some China multi 12X12 tiles (I think). Anyone know where to get it?

Go see Jensen at Maple Leaf Flooring on 32nd (in the same complex where speedtech used to be)... I got all my basement tile and radiant heat matts from him and nobody was able to even come close to his pricing...

I second that. I did all my duraceramic through him and he was a full buck cheaper than everyone else.

Are they wholesalers? I'm honestly not too picky about what type of slate I want.

You get what you pay for.... be prepared for lots of breakage, flaking and chipping plus some blah colors.

The cheapest you'll find slate is when home depot gets a container full of it. They'll dump it for as little as $2.49/sq ft. But you DO get what you pay for. Maple Leaf is a retailer. Universal Slate, Julian Tile, Ames Bros, are all wholesalers that sell to the public and carry "China Multi" (among others) but good slate will run you about $4-$5 per foot.
