took this when I was testing a lens at Saneal, I think it's worth the $1200, or no? 7-14mm lumix lens, any input?

    I personally wouldn't pay $1200 for a M4/3 lens.

Compare that to other systems with similar field of view and the Nikon 10-24 at only $815 (or less for any of the third party ultra wides) and it's not a great value IMO. Same price for a Sigma 8-16mm which is much wider on APS-C than a 7-14 on M4/3 is $800 as well.

Also consider it doesn't even have to use as much glass as comparable APS-C or FF lenses due to the much smaller image circle, and it's still very expensive.

You're only $500 off of a Nikon 14-24/2.8 at that point, which is more than $500 better IMO.

Totally up to you though! It's all relative. If it's the only way to get ultra wide on the Panasonic system, you'll have to decide if it's worth it to you or not. If you have an APS-C or FF camera, I'd buy a UWA for that instead.

I'm with mitsu. For 1200 you could be in to a good used Nikon body and a tokina 11-16.

    Good picture and all, but...

    I like #4 Go4Long

and agree with what they said about the UWA.
I would rather get an UWA for a DSLR than a M4/3 but it's all subjective.
will you be using your M4/3 all the time now and retire your dslr?

    my contri for this month.
    5D + 17-40, shooting with 5D feels much better than my 40D

Olympus makes a 9-18 for 700, but I see them for 500+ used but its nowhere as wide. I know a dslr lens is cheaper, but I bring my panny everywhere. I am just having a real hard time enjoying lugging around a dslr in comparison to the m43 format Not a knock on the dslr users on here so don't take it as a troll.

I think we're more just saying that investing that kind of money in to m4/3 isn't something any of us would do. I'm not one to critique spending money though...lol

For less than half the price I'd take the 30% hit in wideness. Wide per dollar is better :-P

Take it with a grain of salt though. I bough a 14-24 because I wanted to, a 16-35, 18-35, or used 17-35 all could have done a very similar job for much less money. If spending the money makes sense to you, then do it, don't ask us

One thing to keep in mind with that though is that pro DSLR glass is an investment. I bought all my glass knowing it would still fetch nearly what I paid for it a couple years from now. I'm just not sure the same can be said for m4/3 resale value.

Good lenses fetch almost the same as new, used. ie 20/1.7, 7-14/4.0, etc. Based on American retail. My 20/1.7 I can sell used for more than new if I ship it to curtain places
