    Default Seriously reddit?!

This was linked on the front page of reddit...do people really not know this? It's an article on how to maximize fuel efficiency

    http://www.opentravelinfo.com/travel...s-29-tips.html

    Brake the right way...

    Turn off your air condition...

    Reduce weight...

    Turn your car off...

    Drive slower...

    Drafting...

    Close your windows...
I deleted the explanations for each point because they're super long. But the subtitles sort of say it all. I thought all this was pretty common knowledge.

Kinda like Beyond sometimes. A member could be arguing this and that, but says one -ridiculously- stupid comment and pretty much loses all merit entirely.

36: When you drive a car with manual shift and you are on a slightly downhill slope, put it in neutral and let it roll. Your RPM will be at idle while you still make good time. However, please don't try this on a steep slope. Your car might pick up too much speed and it will become hard to control. You might even want to put it in lower gear (to use the braking power of the engine). The car still will hardly use any gas (unless you step on the gas pedal).
For automatic cars, I usually just take out the overdrive to use the engine for braking (saves brake pads).
Lol engine braking uses the same gas as turning the engine off... zero

Turn off your air condition 3. This tip might be somewhat impractical in some areas. I would never dare to switch off the air condition of my car in Arizona in the Summer. However I also know that the compressor for the air conditioner loads the motor of my car more, which will reduce my fuel economy. I try not to use the air conditioner if I don't have to. Park your car in the shade if you can, so you won't have to keep the AC working as hard when you go somewhere. Roll down the windows just a tiny bit, so the air can circulate through your car while you are parked (might not be a good idea in areas with a high theft rate). Turn off the AC 5 minutes before you reach your destination and don't keep it working until the last second.

Funny thing is, there are test results that show that the drag created by driving with your windows down reduces fuel economy more than if you were to drive with the windows up and A/C on (this obviously doesn't apply if you are stuck in rush hour traffic)

Maybe this guy expects people to super cook inside their cars.

not quite, get a wideband afr and you'll see you are still using fuel, just a lot less....

Number one on the list is correct, braking the right way. 90% of people ride the bumper in front of them, which usually means brake, go, brake hard, go, etc. I hate being behind someone who does that aggressively. I prefer to coast at a consistent speed and use my brakes very rarely in traffic, I get there the same time (maybe 1-5 min slower at most) than the car that brakes every two seconds... It makes for a nicer drive, and uses less fuel, but you still see the majority of people riding the car in front of them...

The rest of them are pretty obvious... even number 1 is pretty obvious too. Most people don't really care about fuel economy in the long run though. Being a student, I like to have some extra money for booze and whatever else I like to buy

The injectors do turn off when coasting in gear in a mnaul, widebands just display the maximum value they're programmed to display

The injectors don't turn off when you coast (either clutch in or in nutral); if they did, with no connection to the engine your engine RPM would go to zero.

Thus why gearing down is more efficent than coasting to a stop in a manual.
I'd rather burn out my brakes than my clutch

Coasting in gear does not mean clutch in or neutral. It means coasting, while in gear.

Driving conservatively vs not I get 600km vs 500km on a tank. At ~7.5 L/100 km (my civic), that is around $8 (right now) per tank. Lets say I save an average of 6 dollars (to be conservative) per tank. If I fill up once every 2 weeks (which for most people is quite low), then that is $156 in savings in a year. If I fill up once a week, that is $312 in savings.

Ill take my couple hunderd bucks and go by some beer thank you very much.

What exactly are you bitching about here? You're mad that everybody in the world isn't a car enthusiast and thus doesn't know these things?
