To be honest, I was just watching this with my mom, and yea, I got beat WAY worse as a kid with the feather duster.

My dad used anything he could get a hold of and had backups in case one broke 16 is a bit old to be spanking IMO, just means he didn't do a good job raising her when she was younger. Would expect more from a judge who handles child abuse cases.

I am all for corporal punishment.

However these two morons let their emotions control the beating instead of finding an appropriate punishment for what she did. They basically beat her until they weren't angry anymore. The father even returned to get a couple more hits in after the initial beating. Their actions definitely constitute abuse if for no other reason for the things they said to her while they hit her.

It would be different for me if they said to her calmly, "you will be getting 17 hits for what you did" and then proceeded to hit her a fixed number of times.

So what did she do anyways that would condone this? Drugs? Drunk driving? Threesome on her parents bed?

Nope.

Was about to say the same thing. He's got anger issues. He strapped her, stopped, strapped her again, stopped, and again. Her crying was encouraging him to continue. That was NOT discipline, that was abuse.

The sad part of this thread is all the people proud that growing up they topped this abuse, as if abuse is something that is healthy to brag about being more severe.

Teenagers have to be hit where it hurts... the financial department. Take away the luxuries: remove any allowances, car keys gone, no computer, internet, phone... etc...

Laying the smack down on a teenager is stupid. This guy failed big time.
