Just wondering if there is a site or list of builders who still have lots available in the SW. Would it just be easier to call up each builder to see if new phases are being released? The ones I've called today are not open yet for some reason...

Mckenzie has york29 (SE however)
Not looking at the SE at the moment, but the Castle Keep ones are a great idea to check out.

Yeah......... I have no idea how the city allowed them to develop those ones, I mean some of them literally back out onto the dump.... and I couldn't imagine the smell their if the wind was from the wrong direction.
As far as SW, there are a few from when I was townhome shopping.
Brookfield (formerly Carma Developers) is building in silverado, and also by signal hill, ummm can't remember the community. Also they are building in auburn bay, mosaic mckenize, and cranston.
Actually, if you look in Jordan's posts, the one place he had for rent fully furnished was a Brookfield townhouse that was listed for 1,650.
The units in the SE and the ones up near signal hill, are typically around 1200+ sqft with a double attached garage. I know the ones in Mckenzie towne don't have their show homes built yet, and have promotional pricing of 15,000$ off.
Also, depending when you call, most places don't actually open till 12. So if you called prior to that there wouldn't be anyone working to answer your calls.
I have to agree the York29 townhouses are poorly placed strategically, however, the floor plans are quite nice. They are very close together/across from one another, which I don't really like.
I face 52nd and can honestly say the smell of the dump hasn't negatively affected my choice to buy in mckenzie towne.
There are times when I am able to smell that distinct odor, but generally not from my actual patio.
Brookfield in Aspen looked like a good choice, but all their lots are sold/spoken for. Thanks for all the ideas, I'll try to give a few more builders a call tonight.
Looks like AVI townhouses in Castle Keep are out, the garage is a silly setup where one car parks in front of the other. This would never work for so many people unless you parked 1 car full time each season.
Lot of the new build townhomes are single wide, double long garage setups.
Kind of annoying for a 2 or more vehicle household, for sure.
DOES ANYONE NEED A GO-JUICE?
nope... but way to spread false info maybe take a look at the plans for the area, sports park, theatre... lots of shit right off your door way in york29 in the futureOriginally posted by triplep

For sure, wouldn't bother me.

Under 400,000 would be awesome, but under 350,000 is even better. It's just 2 people and dog so we don't need a ton of space.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
Still beats a single garage by a mile, which is great if you are on a budget.
What is your rough budget OP?
Garage won't cut it again. I don't need an oversized two car garage, just something that will fit two cars in it side by side.

mmmmm not trying to spread rumors as I drive by their quite a bit. But at 52nd and 130th, they are backing out onto the dump (mind you it isn't the portion they are using currently as the dump) but they still back onto city of calgary dump land.
And I am not trying to bag the area, as we are building a townhouse in mosaic mckenize.
the dump is further down 52nd actually and the community doesn't back directly onto 68th AFAIK

looking directly east in the streetview link posted above is the dump.

ummmm you do realize that hill to the left of the street view is the dump right? Not the current portion that is open, but it is still the dump. Also the directions that you made, where you started them, right on 130th and 52nd, up until I think 2 years ago, the entrance to the dump was right around there. The only reason I think it was moved was because they knew they were going to be working on 52nd and it would have just created to many traffic problems.
By the way OP, if that is your price range why are you looking for a townhouse? You should extend your search and look at duplex's and single homes. I know in silverado for under 350k you might be able to pick up a starter single home (not 100% sure, since they were out of my price range and didn't bother looking), but I know in auburn bay a semi detached could have been bought for around 300k. I know there is landscaping etc that you need to look at as well, but I would really look at the semi detached and single house market as well if I was you.
We are definitely looking at other options as well, but it seems like we can get everything we want, and upgraded finishes for our budget.
Ideally we'd love to find a starter home inner city but that's probably out of the question with our price range unless the place is a complete dump. I don't mind a reno job, but a house that has to be gutted is out of the question.
