Default Two sinks in master ensuite?

I'm in the process of building and I am not sure which way I want to go for the master ensuite.

The counter space is just over 6 feet so ample room for two sinks.

Is this option "GREAT" for potential buyers down the road or is it a fading trend? or neither? (I wont be living with anyone right away).

Would you rather have one sink off to the side and have ample counter space on the other while enjoying cupboard/drawer space underneath the counter?

Married guys/gals lets hear some insight.

If you have the ability to add 'her & her' sinks, do it for sure. It's a nice option and people prefer ensuites with such a set up.

We love ours, make sure you get power outlets at both sinks too.

I hear it's a feature that people want all the time on HGTV's shows... but when my wife is getting ready to go out I'd rather be in a different bathroom...

My wife uses the main floor bathroom and I use the basement bathroom if we're going out for supper.

Might be more of a personal taste, like bath tubs!

EDIT: But do what those guys said for resell price!

Definitely worth it as far as resale goes.

Our last house had 2 sinks and our current house doesn't. It was on "our list" of things we wanted in the house. Unfortunately, now it's on my never-ending list of renovation projects.

It should be standard in my opinion.

My wife and I have two sinks, and we will NEVER go back to just one in the ensuite.

    Two sinks or bust!

It is *super* useful if the couple works around the same time.

Two sinks will likely help resale values for a few years yet, but in my research, it seems the new wave is to have 2 vanities spaced apart from each other.

I sort of like the new style as it allows both people to still get ready at the same time, but not feel like you're lined up at the sinks in a public washroom.

    Some pics I found online:

Thanks for the responses! I'll stick with the revised drawings to add a double sink. Initally the upgraded master ensuite had both a shower AND a tub, but seeing as how most people take showers we asked if they could take out the tub, extend the counter top by 3-4' and add another sink. I figure if someone really wants to take a bath they can do so in the main bathroom upstairs.

i wouldn't remove the tub, that is probably more a selling point in a ensuite bath then dual sinks....think of who "okays" the choice of a home purchase primarily, the wife (who takes baths!) or husband?

IMO make the dual sinks work in the space that you have
recessed shelving or med-cabinet space can be added i you need more place for things

DON'T REMOVE THE TUB!! There was a discussion about this (can't find thread) and it was pretty unanimous to leave the tub, especially in the ensuite. Any family with small children will want it. If you want more space ditch the shower and turn the tub into a shower/tub.

A friend has this and while it looks cool, for functionality, he (and his wife) hates it. Plus, it takes up more counter space that the OP is already worried about.

OP - two sinks, keep the tub, ad shelving between the sinks if you need more space...

I wish we did this. Only the wife's side has it. I would also recommend two medicine cabinets. All my stuff just sits on the counter, she can hid hers.

Definitely don't remove the tub and definitely add another sink.

My last house didn't have a tub in the ensuite and people always thought that was weird... Wife also wished we had a tub in the ensuite but we had another bathroom with a huge tub so it was okay. If someone is moving in with kids, it might be an issue.

Another piece of advice that you might already be thinking about anyways: get drop-in sinks. I probably had a slightly larger counter than you but they put in sinks similar to the picture below and because of the edges (mine were also thicker), it was a huge waste of space.

I don't know if they're actually called drop in sinks but this is what I mean:

Those are called undermount sinks. A drop-in sink has a lip around the edge that sits on top of the counter.
