Sod can be quite cheap, especially if you can get a few of your neighbors in, basically it cost us about $300 to sod 1600 sq. ft. last summer, can't remember who we went through, one of the big sod farms. But we had like 9 houses together which basically cut our cost in half.

    have you considered doing seed?

cost us I think MAYBE like $40 for a huge bag of seed......in under 2 months our grass was up to normal height, it got nice and thick really fast. Simply level off your yard and throw some seed around and then water it alot.

IMO seed is the way to go cheap, easy to "install" and becomes as nice as/even better than sod really fast

I'm going to be needing a lawn this spring too...

For seed is ther a spreader that you need to get an even lawn?

Where are the best places to buy sod?

What does it usually cost per sq ft?

Anyone ever get that "spray on" seed installed... its the stuff that they use around overpass construction that looks like an unnatural green when it is sprayed on originally.

    SEED SUCKS ASS!!!!!

I have my own landscaping company and Bluegrass sod is

Seed can leave your grass VERY uneven and make it look like ass and its hard to get it to grow in that spot once the rest is growing.

If your interested around the time of sodding, send me a PM or email.

Seed PWNS Really, I thought it would sux0r but it works out GREAT. We seeded really late in the year, like almost in August since our backyard wasn't done until then. By like first or second week of Sept the lawn looked great (I think it actually looked better than every other lawn on our street ).

I'll post some picz of this seed pwnage when I get home

hahaha you must have used alot and watered a TON!!!

I use seeds for customers who dont wanna spend the money for sod, usually I have to go back and replace part of the lawn with bluegrass lol

But if you had good luck with it

I wish I had pics of my grass, by far best in the neighbor hood

I was advised to let the yard sit for a year before landscaping - glad we did. Lots of sinkage. I also think seed looks like shit, and will be getting some nice Kentucky blue this spring.

ya, rule of thumb, like you said let it sit 1 yr. I know alot of other companies that wont touch it before 1 yr because there responsible for damages to the yard after it sinks lol

even a range is fine... i just really have no idea what to expect

haha honestly, it just depends on the slope, how much loam is needed, the angles on the yard.

Its tough to say without actually seeing it.

    Couple grand?

Why do you have to let it sit for a year? Can't you just roll it and then sod it? Doesnt rolling it prevent it from sinking?

I want to do it myself, So basically its like 1.5 a roll? Whats a medium sized lawn usually cost? Just for the sod? ballpark?

The ground was moved with a backhoe - it will sink. If you lay your sod, you will have to lift it up again to fill in those caved in areas. It always sinks around the house (where they put the basement) - mine dropped a good 6-8 inches. My cousin in law has over 1 foot of sinkage, up to 15 feet from the house.

Whether the rest of your yard has sinkage depends on whether it was a hill or a valley when the construction company leveled it off. Unless you know this, wait a year and water the hell out of it while you wait.
