See Crank. See Crank Walk. Walk Crank Walk.
Sign a petition?
lol
State controlled democracy is really sort of hilarious sometimes.
Quick, there's a bulldozer in front of my house, make sure you get on the internet and sign a petition!
Surely some internet document dreamed up by the slaves of the nation will force the leader to do the right thing.
Private companies aren't the only people out to make a buck, you should check your leaders and see what their pockets are lined with.
It would be a great thing to be a ruler these days, people don't take any real action, they just feel victimized and sorry for themselves any time the people they surrender to, act in some entirely predictable way.

"Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners."
What is the walkway for and is this company charging a toll to use it? I'm confused.
I found these links when I was looking for some information on this:

Reminds me of that viewing area over the grand canyon. I do find it a bit ugly from the pics.
Some of the accusations against Stephen Harper are a bit of a stretch - more likely they are making shit up to convince the anti-Stephen Harper crowd to support the petition even if they didn't give 2 shits about it to begin with.
I'm sure it's been like that since the begining of time... Ummm, just ask the natives of this land.Originally posted by Modelexis

No. The French Revolution is the first that comes to mind, among other events.

Don't know what this thread is about, however I'd like to see them remove the park entrance booths on the highway, or atleast have a seperate lane for people not stopping in the park. I drive through there four times a year, it's annoying to have to wait 30min for billy bob in his motor home. Also having to deal with people slamming on their brakes to take pictures of goats.

i signed it yesterday now what? before your edit can you save me the reading?
- Brewster Travel Canada (owned by an American firm) wants to build a viewing area at the current tangle ridge viewing area as well as a walkway / trail
- Access to the viewing area will be free, but the walkway has an 'interpretive tour' that you have to pay for.
- They want to increase tourism in the area (and sell more of their own tours I guess)
- Parks Canada is reviewing it for approval
- There are locals in Jasper that do not want it
- Petition is formed saying that the Harper Government is privatizing the Jasper National Park, selling it to americans, and that this company will charge a toll for people entering the national park (which is quite a stretch). Hence my comment above about tricking the anti-Harper group into supporting this - they're trying to pull a fast one on those groups who hate Harper enough by linking this to him so they can get support.
You can see the walkway in this pic as well as the viewing area :
I think the design is ugly but the idea is cool : being able to walk on that glass balcony overlooking the park.
huh, although I am all for the benefits that increased tourism would bring (ie economic). As someone who is an avid outdoors person I hate when they do shit like this.
Nose Hill was ruined by the cement path. Now its packed with the average city person who has no regard for nature- litter everywhere and people leaving garbage bags full of dog shit everywhere like the dog poo fairy is coming around to pick it up and leave a dollar.
Elbow falls is horrible due to the mass paving and picnic tables set up. Its not even enjoyable with the amount of people that go there.
IMO anything that makes nature more accessible to the mass public = a terrible idea.
I'll have to reserve final judgement until I actually go to the existing site, but the above statement still stands...
I used to go running all over Nose Hill and never once saw that

really? I noticed a huge increase in the amount of garbage and doggy bags left on the trail when they cemented the path. I walked my dog there almost every day up until a year ago.Originally posted by msommers

I know exactly which crowd would spend money to do this - oriental tourists.
Let the tourists have their tourist trap, and the rest of us who know better, stick to the off-beaten path
A whole bunch of my friends are posting this 'save Jasper park' BS. Looks like a great idea to me.

I do get great service there, especially when I mention my name, haha.
Yep. Still waiting for the day someone builds a Godzilla hot air balloon and fly over these areas and see the tourists reactions.Originally posted by revelations

That said, I'm not sure why this is bad. What's the difference between this and the Banff Gondola ride?

From parks Canada themselves.

I saw the petition link and when I went to the website I thought it was pretty vague on what they were trying to say about "profiteering". They left a lot of information out of what they were protesting against exactly and singling out Stephen Harper's government was pretty biased.
