I want a 2x4 foot panel of 1/4 inch plexi.
Is there somewhere I can go to get this stuff cheap? Totem/home depot seems pretty expensive.

Could you use a panel of 2x2 1/4"?
Plexi isn't cheap. But there are better places than the big box stores.
There is a store called Industrial Plastics and Paints (I think). Thats where I've gotten such material before.
I'll second Industrial Paint and Plastics (it's down South). Much larger selection than Home Depot, and depending who you get, some very very knowledgable staff. Discounts for students too, if you are one.
Another +1 for ip&p. You could also try Larson juhl. But that's custom picture framing grade plexi.
Home depot. rona lowes and some Canadian tire.

The hardest part is figuring out the best way to cut it, you can buy etching tools that allow you to etch the glass then snap it off. I think it is very hard to get clean cut with most types of saws/dremel discs. A while back I was going to polish my valve cover and Replace the plastic engine cover that a sloppy tech cracked with a plexi sheet but it seemed it was going to be too hard to get good cuts so I shelved that idea. What are you planning?
25$ for a 2x4 piece- 45 if you want delivered in the city
Picked up a few 5x10 sheets at the auction last year...

Great replies everyone.
The big box stores ARE too expensive - Thanks for the options.
For my purpose, just use the table saw - The edges are hidden, so it's ok if they're not pretty. The gas off is brutal though, so I use a respirator with organics filter.Originally posted by J-hop

Unfortunately, not really - I mostly need 4' lengths.Originally posted by Ven

GE Polymer Shapes. I think they were recently bought out. they're up in the NE somewhere.

Sabic polymershapes is where i buy speciality plastics, they should even be able to cut it down for you.

How thick? I'm looking for some too for a project but never got it started cause Home Depot/Rona prices couldn't justify it.Originally posted by AndyL

If anyone needs their plexi/acrylic cut I have a router at work that can cut it to sheets or anything custom you may need. Ive been making acrylic flames logos all day
Do you mask-up for this? I stink up the garage something terrible when I cut or route Plexi... I've heard the fumes are toxic so wear a mask.Originally posted by nixon45

What's appropriate?
Our router/cutter doesn't produce many fumes when we are routing the plexi, It has a powerful shop vac type system that the router bit spins within to remove any fumes/debris etc.Originally posted by LollerBrader

We do have masks on hand just because even if you cant smell it doesnt mean the fumes arent present.
This is the same system we have

If you know anyone at the University of Calgary Engineering, they have all common thicknesses of Plexiglass that can be cut for you for cost.
Very cheap, but you'd need either a student or staff to buy for you.
Nixon, got a question for you, PMed.
