    Default Whole house humidifier

I have hardwood in my new house and a drum style house humidifier - does the humidifier only run when the heat (furnace) is on. And if thats the case how do you run the humidifier in summer if its always going to be hot enough to not require the furnace to run?

Some thermostats allow you to set this on how you want it, I know mine does but its also a fancy touch screen one. I think by default most are wired to run only with the furnace (or the fan). Try to run your fan only and see if the humidifier spins.

You don't. I don't think it would get too dry in summer.

Yeah i have a humidity setting for the house set at about 35% but im not sure if it can detect what the level is and then fire up when it needs to. I'll have to try putting the fan on instead of set to auto like the other guy said to see if it runs. I just don't want to use the furnace unnecessarily if i don't have to.

The drum will not turn if the fan is not going.

If you have AC you need to turn off your humidifier in the summer time as it is is mounted just above the evaporator in your furnace.

I think the power is not running for the humidifier - I didnt even realise that that may be the problem. Will the fan still run if the thermostat level is set to below the current temperature?

Im guessing not. I dont think the heat as been on in our house for the entire 2 weeks we have lived there.
