    Default Android Contact/Gmail question

for you android users that use gmail to manage/sync their contacts...

i have created groups in my gmail using my PC but they won't sync back to my android phone.

i can create groups on my phone itself but they won't sync to gmail either.

do you know how to get them to sync?

i am using Gmail as an Exchange server with my gmail address.

right now, if i add/delete a contact on my phone, then it will be added/or deleted in gmail and visa versa. the only thing that doesn't work is group management.

    any thoughts?

I dont believe if you set up your email with exchange that your contacts will sync. You need to add the whole google account to the android ecosystem.

This. Go to settings, accounts, add google account.
Emails will come through the native GMail app, rather than email.

Also in the case you already added a gmail account, just make sure you have contact sync enabled.

Go to settings > accounts > google account > contacts

    that doesn't make sense.
i just said that if i delete a contact on my phone, then it is deleted in my gmail and visa versa, so that means they are syncing.
it's just the grouping that doesn't sync either way.

i can't stand the native Gmail app, it's terrible. i prefer the stock HTC mail app.

Yes it does. Groups don't work in exchange.
You can set up the google account to only sync contacts and not email if you prefer. Then you get the google groups for your contacts and your email through exchange.
