I saw that they will be going for $199 for the 16gb next week, and at that price I'm almost considering picking one up. My E-reader shit the bed, and I know E-ink will be easier on the eyes, but I kind of like the versatility of a Tablet...

Yup, price dropped for blackberry playbook went down today in quebec. $199 for a 16GB one. The rest of Canada will get the price change tomorrow.
If you check out walmart, their websites are already saying $198 so you can totally go to Futureshop or best buy right now and depending on who you talk to, they will price match it and you don't have to wait til tomorrow.
These will sell like hotcakes, it's not a bad price for a tablet.
Just a heads up, staff at these places are known to hide these items for themselves or staff, the best way to get them is to speak to a store manager, based on previous experience.
i have one through work, but i think i will pick one up for myself
AGAIN: This deal is technically not starting until tomorrow BUT here's my story:
I got one for my friend from Walmart this morning. Those old ladies are really grumpy and wasn't budging on the price at first. Afterwards I spoke to the store manager and explained to him that their website is already advertising it at $198, so they have to honor the price.
A technical issue, but completely not my fault. In the end, he gave me the last 16GB playbook in the store for $198 TODAY!
This was at Country Hills Walmart. They still had a couple of 32GB ones, and those go for $299 @ a sale price.
i think its a good price, for a product like this. i think they will sell fast.
I went to Bestbuy and try to get them to price match today and they didn't. I ended up getting one today and will go back tomorrow and price match.
Good to see people are picking them up. I want one, but can't figure out what I would use it for haha

Me too.. So tempting but the only thing I can think of doing with it is surfing the web while on the throne.Originally posted by Neil4Speed

How long does it take one of these to boot up?
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!
It's kinda the only thing I use it for and it's great! If OS 2.0 ever comes, there would be Android App Market support there. As of now, App World is crap so don't even need to think about that. I use the facebook, twitter, and The Score app on there and that's about it.Originally posted by clem24

Boot up... It's been a while since I have to shut it down completely cuz the standby battery life is pretty good. If I have to give you a number, I think it would be around 90 seconds?
You can't go wrong with a $200 tablet that still has support. And even a better deal if you have a BB that you can share your data connection with.
i have had mine for a while. it's been pretty good. of course there are issues but its not too bad. picture quality and sound are pretty good. i also have a 9700 and sharing the data plan is sweet. but i did have to move up to a 6 gig plan
That and surfing Beyond between rounds of MW3 (also useful if using a website for DIY mechanics in the garage too though)Originally posted by clem24

I just wanted to double check to see if anythings changed. Can you still only get email/data if you own a blackberry? I know when it first came out, this was an issue but I haven't really been following the playbook. If it has an email client via wifi, it might be worth picking up
i just picked one up from staples for $170 had them price match wal-mart since they don't go on sale till friday
2022 Acura RDX A Spec
2013 C63 AMG Sedan
2006 Nissan X-Trial
2005 Bmw M3 vert
2008 Ducati 848
1977 Ford F150
How did you get it for $170?
I just bought one off Future Shop online to use up a gift card I had. Hope the backorders don't take too long to ship.
Are these things worth $200 for just surfing the net and checking e-mails around the house? Can't argue the price, but are they a lot worse than something like an iPad or Galaxy Tab? Is there any lag/choppyness when doing normal things?
I'd say they're definitely worth the 200. Can't go wrong for the price, seeing the specs and build quality. It's true, there is a shortage of apps for it at the moment, but if you don't depend on apps to get stuff done, you're good to go. I've never experienced any lag with mine. I've used it as my main hostel booking/research/news utensil while traveling in Europe this summer, no complaints in that aspect.Originally posted by Mitsu3000gt

It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice.

Better question to ask is are these things good for just surfing the net.
Hardware wise this thing is a beast, the OS is however terrible and the "promise" of fantastic changes has been around for 6 months.
If you have a tablet already this will be a paperweight, if your a BB guy and dont own one you will get use out of this as the browser is actually very solid, more so then safari IMO.

Assuming the OS2 will update the current firmware, email and an 'Android App" player will be featured in the new OS2 coming around Feb 2012 that will allow all the current games in the android market to transfer over.
Still contemplating if I should get one myself though..
