It says it triggered a 1m high wave. That isn't to bad is it?
I hope everything is ok.....twice would not be good!
From my understanding, tidal waves are never really that tall. Its that there is so much power behind them that they push so far inland. Not too sure how bad this one was, but it sounds like it didn't cause a whole lot of damage, compared to the previous one anyway.Originally posted by Redlined_8000

Waiting for the news articles from the U.S. bible belt about how God "gave them this earthquake because it is the anniversary of Pearl Harbour...
Nevertheless...I hope that things over there are not that bad...
Maybe there is some truth to this "end of the world thing"...

One of my big concerns with any earthquakes or tsunamis that hit Japan is that the situation at the Fukushima nuclear plant is still no where near being under control. If another large tsunami or earthquake were to hit the site in its current state the results would be catastrophic.
Seen this this morning, just a few reports of injuries and no tsunami damage as the highest wave was only 1M. Thanks god!
The nuclear plant is what I'm essentially worried about. Hope everybody's ok.
from what i have read already it doesnt seem SO bad but who knows what can still happen and also with the aftershocks
or god forbid this was a preshock..Originally posted by urrforce

Dec 21 is coming
The last wave was 10m I believe, so this 1m wont be much of an issue.

Earthquakes all the time. Where I would start getting concerned is if in the next 2 weeks both the new madrid fault line let loose (the approximately 15 nucular power plants along this one) http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Madrid_Seismic_Zone (there has been recent activity near this one) and the cascadia fault line let loose http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascadia_subduction_zone .
I hope everyone in Japan is ok from the one they had today.
I was under the assumption that the height is measured at the coast, no? I really have no idea, so its a legitimate question.Originally posted by Khyron
It depends how fast it's travelling. A 1m wave out at sea can turn into a 30m wave as it hits shallower water and gets overrun and amplified by itself.
Tsunami in Japan?
Isn't this like saying Monday will come next week?
