Default Man surrenders license to judge, proceeds to drive away

A 51-year-old Calgary man has been sentenced to 45 days in jail and had an additional year added to his current driving ban, after attempting to drive away from the Airdrie Provincial Courthouse without a licence.

On Friday, January 11, the unidentified man made a court appearance and plead guilty to an impaired driving charge. The man received a sentence which included a two year, Canada-wide ban from driving, and the accused surrendered his operator’s licence to the judge.

Following the sentence, the man left the courthouse, entered his vehicle and attempted to drive to his residence.

RCMP officers intercepted the man before he left the vicinity.

“The actions of this gentleman show a serious lack of respect for the court system. It’s almost inconceivable that someone could be standing in front of a judge and surrender their drivers license for an impaired driving conviction, and then get into a vehicle and attempt to drive away only minutes later,” says Sheriff Jason Graw of the Airdrie Integrate Traffic Unit.

RCMP have made arrangements for transporting the man to jail.

I'd say throw the book at him, but it might improve his intelligence.

    What a moron.

This guy is a genius. Reminds me of my wayward cousin I haven't seen in decades who got put in jail for stealing cars, got out and then got put back in the same day after getting caught stealing a car.

What if you have more than 1 car? LOL j/k I know what you're saying.

Anyway I'd say it just goes to show how little a driver's license means these days.

Have any of you ever sat in on court? While not as scandolous as judge judy or joe brown, there is some entertainment to be had.. And it just blows your mind how some people show up dressed, and how they address the judge..

I was also surprised at the lack of security at the courthouse I went to.. No metal detectors, or guards at the doors or anything... Just a bailiff sitting in the corner half asleep.

The majority of cases are either drunk driving/domestic/or theft cases.

Amen... since you can buy one rather than being tested.

It's kind of funny that he didn't at least park a bit farther, so it's less obvious.

This does not beat my firsthand story.

My best friend has a cousin, who we used to have occasional drinks with. He thought he was top shit, and we all let him think that, because well, it was funny.

The sad part is, this story takes place when he was on his 5th or 6th DUI suspension.

Lorne walks into the RCMP station, and an officer steps up to help him. He states that today, his DUI suspension is up, and that he would like his licence back. The officer checks, and sure enough, the driving ban is up, and so returns his licence.

Lorne walks out of the station, and gets in his car. Yes, he drove his car to the station to get his licence back. Starts it, puts it in drive, pulls forward, and is immediately pulled over. The RCMP officer that returned his licence, just pulled him over. Her first question? "Hello Lorne, have you had anything to drink today?"

    Lorne failed the roadside test.

He was arrested and they walked into the station, and did the breathalizer. Lorne blew something like 0.12 or something retarded like that.

    Lost his licence again.

Was one of the best tales I have heard, and after a lot of prodding, Lorne admitted was true.

Fuck we laughed for months from that one.

Have they considered having him put down? Obviously too stupid to fit into society.

you guys ever noticed the late evening "shooting fish in a barrell" dui's at the impound lot?

get nailed for 24hrs, have friend drive to impound bail car out before sobering up, decide to drive (or have drunk friend drive) get pulled over right outside impound for a 2nd dui or driving without license...

    theyy were good for giggles...

Dude, even easier was the cops would sit outside the Texas Gate in Cochrane, across the street.

People would pile out of the bar, see the cops, and just mill around outside smoking, all nervous because they knew the cop was there, so no one would get in their cars.

Then the drunkest person would stumble out, and fall into their car, and start to pull away. The cop would then pull them over, then it became like that scene in Fast and the Furious when all those cars go rushing out of the garage.
