First of all, you gotta see if you'd rather get one online or locally from an authorized dealer?

You can find a 'better' watch for a little cheaper online vs an AD locally. The down side is that warranties and so on may not be covered if bought online.

Once you decide on that, you can start narrowing your options.

damn that bokchoy taking the omega, damn him to hell! on another note, wayyyyyy too many choices out there in this price range.

for brand new, i really like ORIS and OMEGA, but you cant really find even a new quartz omega for less than 3k, if you do, its not much less.

Longines Hydroconquest would be a good bet! Talk to Justin at Gem in Scotia Center, I know they had a nice selection in his other store. Its a beautiful watch and would come in on the low side of your budget.

Edit. Go for the Chrono if you want a larger watch as these are only 39mm.

Define 'nice'. Post some pictures of watch styles you like, regardless of price and I'm sure you'll get more specific feedback.

A lightly used watch brings the most value. Check around at the top watch shops in town, they come with a warranty in most cases and are polished, cleaned, etc. Like used vehicles, used watches are an even bigger bargain.

People get bored of their watch and trade it in on the latest and greatest.

Thanks Neil, the automatics are 41mm

The Jazzmaster Maestro seems to fit the bill.
Timeless design in a 45mm case.

If buying new, that price range and size screams Tag F1 of some sort to me.

If buying used and you'd like something a bit more "watch guyish", an Omega Speedmaster Professional may be in the cards.

edit: link removed. I probably shouldn't link to authenticwatches
Someday we may need to activate the halo structure off Deerfoot and destroy the North East.

I've read that Omega is phasing out the quartz models of the Seamaster so you might be able to find one inside your price range. Cheaper and easier to maintain long term, but some people just prefer an automatic over the battery.

I wouldn't mind this new Hamilton.

    Hamilton Seaview Chrono

Similar to my Jazzmaster Maestro but a little more rugged looking. It's 44mm's

For $1-2k, the world is your playground.

I would suggest if I knew what watches you'd like because there's that many options.

I haven't looked myself, but you can probably find a nice vintage rolex in that range as well, if you want something with a little character maybe

You definitely can but those are risky because they could be frankenwatches (watches with either random Rolex parts to build one or not even OEM parts).

For that price range, i would explore the route of a vintage Omega Speedmaster. Classy, timeless and definitely elegant.

However, for the 44mm size and more modern look with a good ETA movement, this is a great option.
