Default (NYT) Stalled Out on TeslaÕs Electric Highway (has turned into a fight)

(added 02.11.12) See the article below for the latest from Tesla regarding the fucked up reporting:

I'd be holding off on a Tesla buy for the Great White North. At least until the technology or global warming make this vehicle less seasonal.

Having established a fast-charging foothold in California for its electric cars, Tesla Motors has brought its formula east, opening two ultrafast charging stations in December that would, in theory, allow a speedy electric-car road trip between here and Boston.

But as I discovered on a recent test drive of the companyÕs high-performance Model S sedan, theory can be trumped by reality, especially when Northeast temperatures plunge.

Anyone who buys a Tesla for highway use is a ar-tard anyways. They aren't designed for it, even with free "fills" on a highway, I wouldn't leave the city in one.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

In Canada, battery-only vehicles make sense the West coast.

Everywhere else they are a summer only affair.

The other day I saw a Ford Focus electric in my employee lot. It was plugged into the outlet for the stall. Little does the owner know those outlets are only powered when it's -15 or colder

I'll consider them feasible once they have a gas/diesel generator in them.

even still heat is typically harder on conventional lead/gel batteries. wonder what makes lithium ion so different. still a range of up to 300 miles sounds decent.

My money is on Musk in this story, he would not be outing the NYT unless he knew exactly the end result. This is going to get interesting.

Elon Musk (aka Mr.Tesla) is pissed, says the article is "fake", he has come out on Twitter with this claim.

Musk says onboard computers show "Broder (NYT reporter) did not totally fill the car up and he didn't take the most direct routes. The long detours and partial charge contributed to the problem."

Musk is now lining up reporters to do the same run.
