    Default Soffit lighting

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you run lights under the soffit (that cover duct work) in the basement? Due to space clearance I'm thinking LED/XEON puck lights would make perfect sense but I heard that you cannot run these wirings inside drywall due to codes. Do you guys have any suggestions for me? The other side of my soffit is my furnace room so I can see everything there. Thanks guys!!

    Soffit? Outside the house?

Or do you mean bulkhead? That hides the ductwork inside the house?

It's not recommended to lay wires ontop of drywall. In the event you need to nail or screw up,.. There's a chance you could strike a live wire. A shielded wire is ok for this type of work.

But it's your house. You do what you want. The puck lights I've seen have a ballast or transformer and need a plug-in, the wire just lays there anyways (these are plug-n-play set-ups and usually low voltage - hense the transformer - low to no risk of fire if wire crossed). If it was a short run, I wouldn't worry about it. But that's just me.
