Default Recommended auto body shop for Honda repair?

    Hi all,

I'm looking at taking my CRX from this thread:
    http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.p...threadid=36451
    to a shop for estimate/repair.

I'm looking for recommendations for quality work, specifically on Hondas. I know A1 auto body is honda orientated, and i've heard of comtemporary coachworks, but i dont know how their work is.

Can anyone help steer me to the best shop I should be looking at? Preferably ASAP?

    Thanks,
    Rico

Maranello Auto Refinishing did a beautiful job on my Honda delsol but it wasn't cheap as they prepped the car properly which takes time and labour. They do alot of imports. A1 Autobody is horrible. They painted my girlfriend's Accord and did't even prep. You could see all of the indentations of where rock chips were on the hood where they just sprayed new paint over.

The rule of thumb with autobody refinishing is that you get what you pay for. A full paintjob for $1000 means that there will be minimal prep work done and the paint will peel in a couple of years.

Large body shops work on the principal of getting cars in and out as fast as possible which is why shops like A1 auto body does shitty work. I prefer smaller shops where you actually meet the guys that are painting your car and take their time to do a proper job. Another tip is not to rush the shop. Let them take as long as they need. Good luck!

also, dumb question, but when would it become a 'full paintjob'? i had an accident years ago and they just painted the bumper. would they likely just paint the new fender and bumper, maybe hood, maybe passenger door or would they just paint the whole car? at what point would they consider that?

    thanks,
    rico

heavy d is right about small shops, but I mean untimately try to be involved so they can't screw you over. maybe take pictures before you bring it in so you can determine if it has been fixed properly.

As for marenello's I didn't feel they did a good job on my 7 that was reapired in two places. They didn't buff out the blend on the c pillar, overspray in the wheel wells, and no undercoating to atleast cover it up. To me I find that unacceptable but I do believe that the prep and body work was done well, just didn't take care of some of the finishing deatails.

Thats just my opinoin of them make your own choice of Maranellos as I do not want to create some sort of rx-7 specialties argument again.

Also check out hallamark autobody,I used to work there and found their work do be more than satisfactory plus they are good guys and the employees don't work on flate rate so they won't rush your car.

Going to have to agree, Maranello is probably the best place around. Also agree with the comments on A1. Stay away from them. Maranello is off of Edmonton Trail, about 40th Ave. Talk to Gerry.
